Zero duty

Pre-loaded drives, with software, music or files on them, can classify differently from blank ones, so confirm the commodity code if content is loaded in China.

Fake capacity and flash grade
The best-known problem with cheap storage is a controller programmed to report a larger capacity than the chip holds: files beyond the real capacity are lost without warning. Test every sample by writing and reading the full capacity, not by reading the reported size, and repeat on production samples at inspection.
Flash comes in grades, and a quote that looks cheap may be using downgraded chips. Name the flash grade and the controller in the product specification, and measure read and write speeds against the figures you will print on the packaging.
Brands and trademarks
Memory cards with a famous brand's name from an unknown supplier are one of the most common counterfeits, and importing them is a trademark problem as well as a quality one. Buy branded product only through the brand's authorised channel, and put your own brand on own-label stock; the IP guide covers the risks.
