Sourcing industrial burners from China
Furnace burners for gas, liquid fuel or pulverised solid fuel from China, including monobloc gas burners with fan and controls, oil and dual-fuel combination burners, mechanical stokers and grates, and their parts, pay 0% UK duty with no anti-dumping duty. Whether a burner falls under the gas appliance rules depends on its use. Cambridge China Bridge sources burners.
Gas, oil and dual-fuel furnace burners, monobloc burners, mechanical stokers and burner parts from China pay 0% UK duty. Gas appliance rules and an example.

0% duty
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 27 September 2026, furnace burners for liquid fuel, pulverised solid fuel or gas, mechanical stokers including their grates and ash dischargers, and parts, heading 8416, carried 0% on goods from China on all seven lines, with no anti-dumping measure.
Complete boilers are classified elsewhere (see our central heating boilers guide and steam boilers guide), and industrial furnaces under 8417 (see our industrial furnaces guide). Confirm the commodity code from the fuel and construction.

Gas appliance and machinery rules
Gas burners used in heating and similar appliances fall under the retained Regulation (EU) 2016/426 on appliances burning gaseous fuels, which requires conformity assessment by an approved body and marking; appliances specifically designed for use in industrial processes carried out on industrial premises are excluded from it. Industrial process burners are then assessed under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008.
The product standards are BS EN 676 for forced-draught gas burners and BS EN 267 for forced-draught oil burners, covering flame supervision, safety shut-off valves, purge and emissions. Installation in the UK must be by competent, registered engineers.
Specifying burners
Specify fuel type and supply pressure, firing rate range and turndown, modulation type, combustion head for the boiler or furnace, flame safeguard and valve train, emissions targets such as NOx class, fan and motor, control interface, voltage and supply, and certificates for the exact model.
Worked duty example
Suppose, purely for illustration, you import 40 monobloc gas burners under 8416 20 10 00. At £48,000 free on board and £3,000 to ship and insure, the customs value is £51,000. With 0% duty on gas burners, the only charge is import VAT: 20% of £51,000, or £10,200. VAT-registered businesses usually recover that in their next return. The method is set out in how UK import duty and VAT work.
Inspection checklist
Certification: check the certificate or type test report to BS EN 676 or BS EN 267 covers the exact model and gas family, and whether the burner is certified under the gas appliance rules or supplied for industrial process use.
Function: fire sampled burners on a test rig where possible, check ignition, flame supervision lockout, purge timing and safety shut-off valve closing, and record combustion readings across the firing range.
Components and documents: check valve train, pressure switches and flame sensors against the specification, check leak tightness of gas trains, and check English manuals, wiring diagrams and spares list.
What goes wrong
Burners fail on certification, controls and combustion. Models arrive without certification for the UK gas family or application, flame safeguards or valves differ from the tested build, burners cannot reach the required turndown or emissions on the actual boiler, and spare controls are hard to source.
Confirm certification and application before ordering, check the valve train and controls, and plan commissioning with a UK engineer. See our quality inspection guide.
Cambridge China Bridge sources gas and oil burners and parts for UK boiler makers and heating distributors, checking the factory's test rig and certification before an order. See factory verification.
