Shenzhen Port: Yantian, Shekou and Chiwan for Exporters
Shenzhen Port includes Yantian, Shekou and Chiwan. Confirm the receiving terminal in your booking. Selected OOCL schedules checked in October 2026 show planned Yantian transits of 32–35 days to Felixstowe, 31–33 to Rotterdam and 14–17 to Los Angeles. These are port-to-port examples, excluding collection, clearance and delivery.

Where is Shenzhen Port?
Shenzhen Port serves southern China’s Pearl River Delta. Yantian, Shekou and Chiwan are distinct container shipping locations: a quote saying only Shenzhen does not identify the receiving terminal.
Choose according to the factory address, confirmed sailing, receiving instructions and destination delivery plan. Ask for the actual terminal before arranging collection or loading.
For the wider comparison with other Chinese gateways, see choosing a China export port.
What ships from the Pearl River Delta through Shenzhen?
Yantian’s official Jiangmen rail-sea report, published on 31 July 2025, names electronics, motorcycles, textiles and home appliances as cargo on the Jiangmen–Yantian connection. These are documented regional cargo examples, not a ranking of Shenzhen Port’s exports.
For electronics purchasing, use the narrower Shenzhen wholesale electronics markets guide. Establish what you are buying and check its suitability for the intended market before choosing the shipping route.
Provide the carrier or forwarder with an accurate product description and packaging details. Flag batteries, liquids, chemicals, unusual dimensions and special handling needs before accepting a transport quote.
| Cargo | Official evidence | What to establish before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Electronics | Named in Yantian’s Jiangmen connection report. | Exact product, battery details where applicable, packaging and carrier acceptance. |
| Home appliances | Named in the same report. | Packed dimensions, gross weight and handling requirements. |
| Textiles | Named in the same report. | Carton details, moisture protection and cargo-ready date. |
| Motorcycles | Named in the same report. | Condition, fuel and battery information, packing and transport acceptance. |
How long does shipping from Shenzhen take?
The table gives selected Yantian sailing examples from OOCL’s published schedules, checked on 18 October 2026. LL1 and LL6 documents are dated 18 October 2026; PCS1 is dated 17 October 2026. Each range is calculated from scheduled departure to the first scheduled arrival at the named destination in calendar days.
LL1 samples: OZB/011, OGE/001, OWS/002, ODK/010 and OPR/013. LL6 samples: EAC/020, ETC/019, AIM/019 and RTX/016. PCS1 samples: GOB/028, GCS/440, GWA/437, AQD/433, ACQ/061 and PUS/421.
These are planned port-to-port examples, not delivery guarantees or market averages. They exclude collection, consolidation, export preparation, destination unloading, release, customs clearance and final delivery. Obtain separate schedules for Shekou, Chiwan or a Hong Kong routing. The linked carrier documents can change after this check.
| Destination | Carrier service | Calculated transit | Scheduled departures sampled |
|---|---|---|---|
| Felixstowe, UK | OOCL LL1 | 32–35 days | 22 October–22 November 2026 |
| Rotterdam, Netherlands, EU | OOCL LL6 | 31–33 days | 23 October–15 November 2026 |
| Los Angeles, US | OOCL PCS1 | 14–17 days | 18 October–26 November 2026 |
Yantian, Shekou or Chiwan: which terminal will handle my goods?
The western Shenzhen operator’s official website identifies Shekou Container Terminal and Chiwan Container Terminal separately. Chiwan is on the Nantou Peninsula in western Shenzhen. Use the receiving location specified for your booking.
Ask the booking party to confirm the receiving terminal, address, vessel, voyage and container receiving window. If a proposed sailing changes terminal, obtain revised instructions before dispatching the truck.
Yantian documents feeder connections with the Pearl River Delta and a rail-sea connection with Jiangmen. For either option, request a complete itinerary showing how the inland or feeder movement connects with your booked ocean vessel.
| Location | What to confirm | Buyer action |
|---|---|---|
| Yantian | The receiving terminal and applicable sailing instructions. | Match the inland movement to the confirmed ocean booking. |
| Shekou | Whether the booking names Shekou Container Terminal. | Use the specified receiving address and deadline. |
| Chiwan | Whether Chiwan Container Terminal is the receiving location. | Do not substitute a Shekou address without written instructions. |
How does Hong Kong connect with Shenzhen shipping?
Yantian’s official feeder report dated 2 August 2013 describes export cargo moving from catchment areas to Hong Kong by feeder, then to Yantian for transfer onto ocean vessels. This documents a historical connection; it does not confirm that the service is currently bookable.
If a quote includes Hong Kong, ask whether it is the loading port, a feeder connection or a transshipment point. Obtain the complete route, transfer arrangements, documentation responsibilities and combined transit estimate.
Compare the whole journey with a Shenzhen loading option, including collection, transfers and destination charges. Check whether the actual service fits your cargo and delivery requirements.
Which cut-offs must I meet?
Work backwards from the confirmed sailing. Request each applicable deadline in writing, with its time zone and responsible party: cargo collection, consolidation warehouse receipt, container gate-in, shipping instructions, verified gross mass and customs formalities.
For a smaller consolidated shipment, obtain the warehouse receiving deadline as well as the ocean booking details. For a full container, confirm empty-container collection, loading and terminal receiving arrangements.
Before changing terminals or routes, ask for revised receiving instructions, deadlines and costs. If a deadline is missed, get written instructions for the next sailing and for handling any container already collected or delivered.
What changes around Chinese New Year?
Maersk’s Chinese New Year guidance identifies production slowdowns, labour shortages, trucking and warehouse disruption, and congestion risks. Its separate holiday advisory documents blank sailings. These notices do not establish that Shenzhen Port closes or that your sailing will be cancelled.
Set separate milestones for production completion, inspection, factory dispatch, inland transport, warehouse receipt and terminal acceptance. Ask the supplier when normal production is expected to resume, and ask the carrier whether the booking remains confirmed.
Do not assume one last shipping date applies to every Shenzhen order. Use the Chinese New Year 2027 planning guide, then obtain the deadlines for your actual factory, terminal and voyage. Historical holiday notices do not establish the next holiday’s cut-offs.
Agree a contingency route and its extra costs before relying on it. Confirm destination collection arrangements and container return instructions alongside the export plan.

A short UK example: customs value and import VAT
For a shipment from Yantian to Felixstowe for import into Great Britain, HMRC’s transaction-value guidance includes transport, loading and handling costs up to the UK place of introduction in customs value. Apply the required valuation adjustments and avoid adding costs already included in the price.
HMRC says import VAT valuation starts with customs value. Add applicable import duties and charges, excluding VAT itself, plus relevant incidental expenses to the first UK destination and those arising from transport to a further UK destination known at importation. Avoid counting costs already included.
Give the declarant the commercial invoice and transport breakdown. This example does not establish the tax treatment for buyers importing into the EU, US or elsewhere; check the destination customs authority for the actual goods and transaction.
What should I send before requesting a Shenzhen shipping quote?
Whether you are buying as an individual, a small business or a larger importer, provide the collection and delivery addresses, product description, quantity, packed dimensions, gross weight, cargo-ready date and special handling information. State the agreed delivery terms and the services you need.
Request the loading terminal, carrier service, direct or transshipment routing, departure and arrival estimates, cut-offs, included charges and excluded destination costs. Compare quotations against the same scope.
Before commissioning sourcing or quote-review support, ask the provider to confirm the work, fees and deliverables in writing.
Frequently asked questions
My supplier says Shenzhen Port. Is that enough to book collection?
Ask for the specific receiving terminal, address, vessel, voyage and deadline. Shenzhen alone does not identify where the truck should deliver.
Can I swap Shekou for Chiwan if the trucking quote is cheaper?
Only arrange the change after the booking party confirms revised terminal acceptance and receiving instructions in writing. Compare any resulting charges and sailing changes.
How long will my goods take to reach the UK?
The selected OOCL LL1 schedules checked on 18 October 2026 give 32–35 days from Yantian departure to Felixstowe arrival. Obtain a separate estimate covering collection, unloading, release, clearance and delivery.
Can I use that estimate for Europe or America?
Use the named destination and service. The selected examples give 31–33 days to Rotterdam on LL6 and 14–17 days to Los Angeles on PCS1; they do not cover every EU or US port.
Do goods from Shenzhen have to go through Hong Kong?
The cited schedules list ocean sailings loading at Yantian. If Hong Kong appears in your quote, ask what role it plays and whether the proposed transfer adds time, handling or documentation.
Can I send a small order through Shenzhen?
Ask for a consolidated cargo quote with the receiving warehouse, packing requirements, destination charges and delivery scope stated. Compare the complete cost with other suitable transport options.
What is the last shipping date before Chinese New Year?
Get order-specific production, dispatch, warehouse, terminal and vessel deadlines. A factory’s last working day and a vessel’s cargo cut-off are separate milestones.
If the port is operating, can my order still miss the ship?
Yes. Production, inspection, trucking, documentation or warehouse receipt can miss the booking’s deadlines. Confirm completion of each milestone rather than relying on port operating status.
