Confirm current opening arrangements and stall locations before travelling rather than relying on an old floor guide.

Prepare a buying brief covering your customers, intended selling market, product functions, packaging, compatibility and acceptable faults. Separate finished retail products from repair parts and loose components. Arrange interpretation and supplier appointments, and leave room for follow-up visits after comparing samples.

Make every stall visit produce a usable record

Give each candidate a reference label. Record the building, stall, contact, invoicing company, model, claimed manufacturer and sample photographs. Trace components beyond the seller's description

For chips and other critical components, ask whether the goods are new, unused surplus, recovered or refurbished. Request the maker, full part designation, batch and date markings, original packaging photographs and upstream purchase records. Treat descriptions such as original or factory stock as claims to investigate.

Ask for a supply chain that connects the offered lot to the maker or a distributor whose authorisation you can check independently. Compare packaging and markings with manufacturer information. Where provenance remains uncertain, seek specialist authentication and functional testing before committing. A working demonstration establishes function under the demonstrated conditions; it does not establish origin.

Qualify the business behind the market sample

Shortlist candidates that can explain their supply route and provide records. Check the company identity and establish who will invoice, receive payment, supply the goods and handle defects. Visit the proposed production or stockholding site and follow your candidate product through its actual handling and testing process. Ask staff to retrieve the sample's source records and explain how a repeat batch would be obtained. Pause candidates that refuse source checks, present unrelated factory footage or cannot connect their sample to the business quoting.

Approve a trial before replenishing retail stock

The UK government's electrical-equipment guidance identifies traceability back to the source as a product-safety principle. Build a purchasing file connecting the seller, sample, approved specification, source records and delivered batch.
