Lab won't discuss a supplier report: what can I do?
Ask the laboratory what authorisation it will accept from the customer named on the report. Have that customer permit a direct reply to you about the identified report and your specific questions. Keep verification pending until the laboratory answers. You can ask Cambridge China Bridge to coordinate the request.

Record the confidentiality refusal accurately
Save the laboratory's reply and record the report as pending verification because customer authorisation is needed. A confidentiality refusal alone does not establish that the report is genuine or false. This guide addresses access to confirmation; use our report verification guide for the wider document checks.
Contact the issuing laboratory through contact details found independently on its own website. Ask what permission, customer identity checks and submission route it needs before discussing the report. Follow the laboratory's stated process rather than assuming a supplier email will be enough.
Get permission from the report's customer
Identify the customer named on the report. It may be the factory, a trading company or another business. Ask the supplier to arrange permission from that customer. If the names differ, ask the laboratory whose authorisation it needs rather than treating the seller as automatically entitled to authorise disclosure.
Ask the customer to use the laboratory's permission form if available. Otherwise, propose written authorisation identifying the customer, report reference and date, named buyer and recipient email address, permitted questions and any disclosure limits. Have the customer send it directly to the laboratory and ask the laboratory to confirm whether it accepts it.
Ask for a specific, limited confirmation
Send the complete supplier-provided report, including attachments, through the route the laboratory accepts. Ask whether it issued that report, whether the supplied copy matches its issued version, and whether it has been amended, replaced or withdrawn. Identify the exact file you want checked so a reply about a report reference cannot be mistaken for confirmation of the whole copy.
Suggested request: “With the report customer's authorisation, please confirm whether your laboratory issued the attached report and whether this copy matches your issued version. Please identify any amendments or replacement report, and confirm the recorded sample identity, tests and results within the authorised scope. Please state anything you cannot confirm.”
Keep verification pending until the reply arrives
Record the request, customer permission, laboratory acknowledgement, outstanding questions and agreed follow-up date together. Sending permission is an action taken, not a completed verification. If the laboratory confirms only that the reference exists, record that limited answer and leave the copy and results checks unresolved.
Where your agreed payment or shipment approval depends on verified evidence, keep that approval pending too. Tell the supplier precisely what response is missing. If permission is refused or the laboratory still cannot answer, consider another report or buyer-commissioned testing against an agreed brief. Do not turn silence into a pass or a fraud finding.

Separate authenticity from coverage of your order
Even a confirmed report must be matched to the goods you intend to buy. Compare its sample description, photographs, model, materials and revision with the order. Our report coverage guide explains that separate decision. Avoid asking the laboratory to approve an unseen production batch merely because it confirms an earlier report.
Keep the laboratory's original response with the checked report and record what remains unresolved before buyer sign-off. Our audit and inspection report comparison explains the different evidence those checks provide. Cambridge China Bridge's own staff in China can coordinate supplier follow-up; the buyer retains the approval decision.
Frequently asked questions
Does a laboratory's confidentiality refusal mean the report is fake?
No. Record the refusal and keep verification pending. It does not establish authenticity or falsification; ask what customer authorisation the laboratory needs.
Can my supplier authorise the laboratory to answer me?
Ask whether the supplier is the customer named on the report. If another business is named, ask the laboratory whose permission it will accept and have the supplier arrange it.
What should I ask the laboratory to confirm?
Ask whether it issued the attached report, whether the copy matches its issued version, whether it was amended or replaced, and what sample, tests and results it records within the authorised scope.
Can I mark the report verified once permission is sent?
No. Keep it pending until the laboratory replies. Record exactly what it confirms and leave unanswered checks open; permission alone is not confirmation.
