Brief a range and approve samples before scaling

Give the factory a brief for dryers, straighteners and curling tools separately: intended salon use, handling, heat settings, cable arrangement, attachments, cleaning and replacement needs. Ask stylists to compare balance, controls, snagging and performance during normal appointments. Use the existing hair dryer guide for the dryer category and the clipper guide for cutting tools.

Ask for the factory’s own MOQ in writing for each model, colour, logo and packaging format. Follow MOQ and sampling, approve production-representative samples, then negotiate a small trial order and record feedback across your salons before expanding. Our brands service can coordinate the range brief. Keep capes, clips and other consumables in the separate small salon supplies guide.

Set the Great Britain conformity route

Mains-powered styling tools fall within the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016; workplace equipment is covered too. For Great Britain, compliant products can use UKCA or recognised CE marking. The manufacturer must prepare the relevant Declaration of Conformity: a UK declaration for UKCA marking or an EU declaration for CE marking. Ask for the declaration, technical documentation and complete safety reports matching the model you intend to order.

The EMC rules address electromagnetic disturbance and immunity. RoHS controls restricted hazardous substances in electrical equipment. Ask for model-specific EMC evidence and material evidence supporting RoHS compliance, including the cable and internal components. Have a suitable testing provider check coverage for your intended configuration and use before sample approval; a logo or certificate cover page alone does not establish that coverage.

Specify the plug, cable and fuse together

Specify an approved BS 1363 standard plug for the UK range and request its approval evidence. The plug regulations require the standard-plug route to include a BS 1362 fuse rated according to the appliance manufacturer’s instructions, with a specified fallback where instructions are absent. They also permit a qualifying fitted conversion plug enclosing the non-UK plug and removable only with a tool. Ask the factory to identify its proposed route.

Treat cable selection as part of the electrical design. Ask for the cable specification, conductor details, insulation material, temperature suitability, cord anchorage and fuse selection rationale. Match the supplied assembly to the safety report and approved sample. Inspect cable entry points and swivel joints for damage, secure retention and exposed internal wires. Have the testing provider resolve any cable or fuse substitution before approving production.

Approve own-brand labels, manuals and packaging

A business having equipment manufactured and marketing it under its own name or trademark is a manufacturer under the electrical safety guidance. Manufacturer labelling must identify the business, postal address and product type, batch or serial identifier. Importer identification is also required where applicable. The equipment must come with clear, legible instructions in easily understandable English. Agree these responsibilities before asking the factory to print your branding.

Request photographs and editable artwork for the rating plate, product labels, English manual, retail box and shipping carton. Check rated voltage, frequency and power against the tested design; align model references across the declaration, reports and artwork. Review heat, water, cleaning and storage instructions with the testing provider. Approve a packed branded sample and agree written approval for component changes. Use check us when assessing Cambridge China Bridge.

Agree inspection methods and release evidence

Have competent testers measure insulation resistance using the method and acceptance criteria in the agreed safety test plan. For an earthed design, check earth continuity between the protective-earth connection and relevant accessible metal; record it as inapplicable where the approved construction has no protective earth. Check temperature control by measuring heat through warm-up and operation at the selected settings. Compare results with the approved design and test plan.

Check cable strain relief using the agreed pull and flex procedure, then inspect anchorage and electrical condition. Have a suitable laboratory verify the safety cut-out under the abnormal operating conditions specified in the safety test plan. Drop packed cartons using an agreed packaging test method, then inspect tools, accessories and packaging and repeat relevant functional checks. Record equipment, methods, results and corrective actions before shipment release.

Check declarable codes, duty and VAT

After checking the tariff heading, the commodity API records below were read directly. Both codes are declarable and carry the third-country duty and standard VAT lines shown. Treat straighteners and curling tools as candidates for other hairdressing apparatus, subject to confirming the actual construction and function with your clearing agent. Recheck the applicable measures for Chinese-origin goods before declaring the shipment.

Compare the complete delivered quote in words and itemised cost categories: goods, samples, artwork, testing, inspection, freight, clearance, duty, VAT and delivery. Use our quote-check service to examine scope and exclusions. The worked quote-check note illustrates checking a quotation’s assumptions, although its product is machinery. Agree who holds the conformity documents and who authorises shipment release.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put my salon brand on Chinese hair straighteners?

Yes, but having tools manufactured and marketing them under your own name brings manufacturer responsibilities. Approve the conformity evidence, labels, English manual and packed sample before production.

Do salon hair dryers need UKCA marking?

For Great Britain, compliant electrical equipment can use UKCA or recognised CE marking. Obtain the matching Declaration of Conformity and evidence for the exact model.

What is the MOQ for own-brand salon styling tools?

It is the factory’s own minimum. Ask for it in writing by model, colour, branding and packaging format. Approve samples, then agree a small trial order before expanding.

What UK duty applies to hair dryers from China?

The hairdryer commodity API showed third-country duty of 2.00 % and standard VAT of 20%. Confirm the code and current measures with your clearing agent before shipment.
