Sourcing dog car seat covers from China
Textile dog car seat covers within heading 6307 carry UK duty of 6% to 12% from China, depending on construction. Consumer products must be safe; approve vehicle fit, fastening security and washed samples before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources dog car seat covers.

UK duty and tariff controls
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 29 September 2026, heading 6307 covers other made-up textile articles. The candidate cover lines below carry 6%, except knitted or crocheted articles at 12%. No anti-dumping or countervailing measures are recorded. The listed suspension is restricted to textile face masks, so it does not relieve duty on dog car seat covers.
The selected lines attach CITES import and export controls. Listed species materials can require permits; check any animal or plant-derived trim. The nonwoven and other textile lines also attach torture-and-repression import prohibitions and export restrictions, and the nonwoven line attaches a supplementary import unit. Ask your customs broker to confirm the applicable declarations and requirements for the actual cover.
These are candidate classifications, not automatic assignments for every cover. Give your broker the fabric construction, coating, filling and photographs, then confirm the commodity code. See the pet products guide for the wider product family.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Knitted or crocheted textile dog car seat covers | 6307 90 10 00 | 12% | None |
| Felt dog car seat covers | 6307 90 91 00 | 6% | None |
| Nonwoven textile dog car seat covers | 6307 90 98 20 | 6% | None |
| Other textile dog car seat covers, including woven constructions | 6307 90 98 99 | 6% | None |
Specify the vehicle fit and protective layers
Choose a rear-bench cover, hammock or individual-seat design. Supply seat measurements, headrest arrangement, seat-belt buckle positions and photographs of the intended vehicles. Specify side flaps, split-seat access, strap adjustment, anchor shape and the underside material. Treat claims of universal fit as something to demonstrate on actual seats.
Define the face fabric, backing, waterproof layer, seam treatment and washing method. Agree sample trials for water passing through seams and buckle openings, wet rubbing onto light upholstery, slipping and coating damage after washing. Keep an approved sample and record the acceptance criteria.
Consumer products must be safe, and importers remain responsible for safety after sale. Assess how the fitted cover interacts with seat belts, airbags and seat movement. Describe it as seat protection; do not approve restraint or crash-protection claims without supporting evidence.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: 800 woven dog car seat covers, illustrative order under 6307 90 98 99, invoiced at £9,000 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £9,800. Duty at 6% is £588. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £10,388, so it is £2,077.60. Import taxes total £2,665.60; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £588 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Fit: install sampled covers on the intended seats; check coverage, buckle access, strap adjustment and interference with vehicle equipment.
Fastenings: pull straps, anchors and buckle attachments; inspect stitching at load points and cycle zips where fitted.
Fabric: compare bulk material with the approved sample; check leakage, wet colour transfer, slipping and condition after the agreed wash.
Packing: check the supplied fitting guide, care instructions, product identification and carton contents during quality inspection.
What goes wrong
A cover can fit a display bench yet leave gaps on the customer's seat. Buckle openings may sit underneath straps, anchors may pull free, and a slippery backing can let the cover bunch up. Resolve these faults on fitted samples before approving bulk production.
Waterproof fabric can still leak through stitching or access openings. Dark fabric may transfer colour when wet, while backing can peel after washing. Check the finished cover after use and cleaning, rather than accepting a fabric swatch as proof of performance.
