CPHI China: prepare chemical supplier meetings
Start with a substance brief and a separate equipment brief, then shortlist exhibitors by manufacturing capability. Book meetings with technical staff, request evidence beforehand and agree sample or trial actions before leaving. Cambridge China Bridge can coordinate supplier discussions through its own staff in China.

Choose sections around your buying task
Use the supplied sales brochure as a category map, then check the organiser’s current event page, exhibitor directory and floorplan before arranging travel. Confirm that registration, venue details and stand locations belong to the edition you intend to attend.
Start in Pharma Ingredients for chemical intermediates. Add Contract Services for custom synthesis or process development. Equipment meetings should address a defined production or testing problem; excipients and finished dosage are separate buying categories.
| Section | Buying purpose | Technical discussion |
|---|---|---|
| Pharma Ingredients | Intermediate supply | Manufacturing site, synthesis capability and specification fit |
| Contract Services | Custom synthesis or scale-up | Route development, process transfer and project boundaries |
| Pharma Machinery | Production equipment | Reaction, separation, drying and materials compatibility |
| Laboratory Instruments & Equipment | Analytical testing | Method suitability, sample preparation and service support |
| Clean Technology & Environmental Protection | Containment and treatment equipment | Solvent handling, extraction and effluent characteristics |
Send a brief that technical staff can answer
For an intermediate, send its chemical identity and structure, required form, intended downstream use, specification revision and analytical acceptance method. Explain the unresolved problem: an impurity, inconsistent recovery, difficult filtration or unreliable repeat supply. Ask suppliers to identify deviations before the meeting. Use the chemical intermediates guide for the underlying quality and import checklist.
Keep equipment enquiries separate. Describe the process stream, solvent system, operating conditions, desired throughput, utilities, available space and cleaning needs. Ask which inputs are still needed to propose a configuration, what a trial would demonstrate and which parts of the installation the supplier would cover.
Book the people and evidence, not just a stand
Shortlist from the organiser’s directory, then ask who manufactures the material and where. Request a relevant batch analysis, method summary and SDS before confirming the appointment. Ask for a process chemist or quality representative alongside sales staff; for machinery, request an applications engineer. Record missing evidence as an open question.
Confirm the appointment directly with the supplier, including stand location, attendees, language support and agenda. Group meetings by location and leave space for technical overruns. Send your questions in advance and agree which documents can be shared. A stand conversation does not replace the site checks in the factory audit guide.
Run meetings around a technical decision
Ask the supplier to explain how it would meet your brief and where it expects difficulty. For ingredients, explore method differences, impurity control, scale-up history, subcontracted steps and proposed changes. Record whether each answer comes from manufacturing records, a development trial or an assumption. Ask your compliance owner to resolve the UK REACH position using the UK REACH guide.
For equipment, ask for a proposed configuration, contact materials, control functions, cleaning approach and acceptance trial against your actual process. Clarify exclusions, commissioning, training and spare parts. Use the equipment support guide to prepare service questions. Close with a named owner for every outstanding technical answer.

Turn meeting notes into qualification actions
Send a written recap separating confirmed capability, supplier claims, deviations and missing evidence. Compare candidates against the same brief. Agree sample identity, batch traceability, dispatch arrangements and laboratory acceptance before requesting material; do not treat a booth sample as representative production evidence.
Advance candidates through document review, testing, site assessment and a pilot with your technical team’s approval. The second-supplier qualification guide covers these gates. Cambridge China Bridge’s own staff in China can coordinate technical follow-up and factory visits, while your team retains specification and supplier approval.
Frequently asked questions
Which CPHI China section covers chemical intermediates?
Start with Pharma Ingredients. Add Contract Services if you need custom synthesis or process development, and PMEC equipment sections for production or laboratory problems.
How do I arrange technical supplier meetings?
Send a focused brief, request relevant evidence and ask for a process chemist, quality representative or applications engineer. Confirm attendees, stand location, language support and agenda directly.
Should I bring chemical samples to CPHI China?
Bring specifications and analytical questions. Arrange any physical sample separately with the supplier, your safety team and carrier after reviewing its SDS and transport needs.
Does meeting a supplier qualify the factory?
A meeting establishes a candidate and open questions. Qualification still needs document review, testing, site checks and a pilot against your approved specification.
