How to qualify a Chinese electric forklift supplier
Qualify the exact truck configuration against your warehouse routes, loads and shifts. Agree a witnessed trial, matching model documents, battery and charger checks, and a workable UK repair route before releasing fleet orders. Ask Cambridge China Bridge to coordinate factory checks through its own staff in China.

Turn warehouse duty into a supplier brief
Send candidates a measured route plan: clear aisle widths at obstructions, turning areas, doorways, overhead restrictions, rack heights, floor condition and gradients. Describe pallet dimensions, load weights and centres of gravity, awkward loads, attachments, travel distances, lifting frequency, shift pattern and charging opportunities. Ask each supplier to propose a truck type and explain its suitability against that same brief.
Check who builds the truck, who supplies the mast, battery and controller, and where the proposed configuration is assembled and tested. Ask to see comparable production and the factory's loaded test arrangements. Use the supplier qualification guide for the wider approval process; this guide adds the operating evidence needed before a warehouse fleet decision.
Approve the load, mast and aisle combination
Request a capacity chart for the proposed mast, lift height, load centre, forks and attachments. Ask the manufacturer to confirm the permitted capacity of that exact combination, including side-shift or other attachment effects. A headline truck capacity does not establish suitability at your highest rack position. Match the chart to the truck's capacity plate and keep the approved configuration with the order.
Request a dimensioned drawing showing mast lowered height, free lift, extended height, fork dimensions, turning envelope and stacking aisle requirement for your pallet orientation. Compare these with measured clear space, including rack protection and doorway obstructions. Have a competent operator demonstrate loaded approach, placement and withdrawal on a representative route. Stop the test if clearance or stability is doubtful.
Agree trial acceptance and model documents
Write a trial sheet before ordering: configuration, representative loads, route, rack positions, duty sequence, starting battery condition, measurements, pass conditions and witnesses. Include visibility, steering, brakes, load handling and sustained work. Record faults, interruptions and corrective actions. Repeat relevant checks at your warehouse; a factory demonstration cannot establish site fit. Agree retesting, rejection and payment release arrangements before the trial.
Identify the tested truck by serial number and record its mast, attachments, battery, charger and controller versions. Match declarations, manuals, capacity information, maintenance instructions and supporting reports to the ordered model and configuration; investigate reports for a different model. The machinery sourcing guide covers supply documentation obligations. Require approval before component substitutions and name your fleet acceptance signatory.
Test the battery and charging arrangement
Specify battery chemistry, usable capacity, pack weight, retention, connectors and the approved charger pairing. Request operating temperature limits, charging instructions, fault information and warranty conditions. For lithium batteries, ask how the battery management system communicates with the truck and charger. For lead-acid batteries, agree access for electrolyte checks and maintenance. Confirm any replacement pack remains suitable for the truck's approved configuration.
Have your site electrician review charger voltage, phase, frequency, demand and connection requirements. Assess charging location, ventilation, fire precautions, isolation and battery handling for the proposed chemistry with your site safety team. During the agreed duty trial, record battery condition, temperature, interruptions and recharge behaviour. Check whether charging fits real shift breaks and whether the claimed endurance depends on lighter loads or easier routes.

Prove the spares and service route
Ask a named UK repairer to review the model before purchase. Confirm access to diagnostic tools, fault codes, wiring diagrams, software permissions and parts catalogues. Agree who handles warranty approval, labour, travel, replacement parts and recovery of an immobilised truck. Establish which parts are stocked locally and how unavailable parts are sourced. Use the spares support guide to structure that agreement.
Test support with a sample fault enquiry and a parts identification request using the proposed truck's records. Keep a fleet register linking serial numbers, configuration changes, maintenance and examination records. Scheduled service does not replace thorough examination. The commissioning guide covers handover and training arrangements. Release repeat fleet orders only after trial defects close and the service route works.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know a Chinese forklift will fit my aisles?
Compare measured clear aisles with the proposed truck's loaded stacking envelope for your pallets. Include rack guards and doorway obstructions, then witness approach, placement and withdrawal on a representative route.
Does rated forklift capacity apply at full lift height?
Do not assume it does. Request the manufacturer's capacity chart for your exact mast, lift height, load centre, forks and attachments, and match it to the truck's capacity plate.
How should I test an electric forklift battery?
Run your agreed shift duty with representative loads and a recorded starting battery condition. Log temperature, interruptions, remaining charge and recharge behaviour using the approved charger.
What if the Chinese forklift has no UK dealer?
Confirm a willing UK repairer, diagnostic access, parts identification and a written warranty route before purchase. If those remain unproven, keep the supplier at trial stage rather than releasing fleet orders.
