Buying a vehicle lift from China for a home garage
Before ordering, have a vehicle-lift specialist and structural engineer review the exact lift, slab and anchors. Check your vehicles' lifting points, prove the mechanical locks work and agree competent installation, testing and handover. Factory documents can be gathered by Cambridge China Bridge.

Get the exact lift accepted before ordering
Send a prospective UK installer the model drawings, installation manual, foundation loads, anchorage specification, electrical requirements and intended vehicles. Obtain written acceptance of the model and site before paying a deposit. Include garage doors, roof obstructions, vehicle access and space to work around the raised vehicle in the survey.
Describe whether use is private or connected with a business. Use our own-use imports guide to prepare the separate compliance review. Ask for model-specific declarations and supporting reports, using our test report verification guide to check their authenticity and coverage.
Have the concrete slab assessed
HSE's motor repair guidance calls for competent installers and flooring of appropriate strength. For your garage, ask a structural engineer familiar with equipment foundations to compare the manufacturer's loads and foundation specification with evidence for the actual slab. A sound-looking surface or a floor that supports parked cars does not establish suitability for an anchored lift.
Gather slab drawings and records of thickness, concrete strength, reinforcement and the supporting ground. Ask the engineer to assess cracks, joints, edges, previous repairs and any topping over the structural slab. Where records are missing, let the engineer specify investigation and testing. Locate buried services before drilling. Obtain a written conclusion covering the proposed post positions and any remedial work.
Agree an anchorage design and installation record
Have the lift supplier, structural engineer and installer resolve the anchor arrangement together. Record the exact anchor product, suitability for the assessed concrete, embedment, spacing, edge distances and installation method. Ask for the loads used in the assessment. Do not accept generic bolts supplied in the crate as evidence that the anchorage suits your floor.
Agree how the installer will record hole preparation, anchor identification, setting or curing conditions and specified tightening checks. Have the engineer resolve clashes with reinforcement, joints or damaged concrete before installation continues. Do not permit unreviewed anchor substitutions, moved holes or improvised packing beneath baseplates. Retain photographs and the completed fixing record for the handover.
Match the lift to your vehicles and repair tasks
Give the specialist the exact vehicles and planned work, including removal of engines, gearboxes or batteries. Check the vehicle manufacturer's lifting instructions against arm reach, pad geometry, approved adapters, clearance and the lift's permitted load distribution. Total vehicle weight alone does not settle compatibility. Ask how the support arrangement changes when a heavy component is removed.
For drive-on equipment, review wheelbase, track, tyre seating, roll-off protection and the separate equipment needed for wheels-free work. Have the installer demonstrate positioning on your intended vehicles. Do not improvise extensions or substitute nearby contact points. Our jacks, stands and ramps guide covers those separate support arrangements.
Check arm restraints and load-support locks separately
Ask the specialist to identify what prevents each lifting arm from swinging and what mechanically supports the raised carriage or platform. These perform different jobs. Request a demonstration of full engagement, release and return to the safe position under the manufacturer's procedure. A click or a hydraulic cylinder holding position does not establish that the mechanical locks are engaged.
Have the specialist inspect locking teeth, pawls, pins, retaining parts, fasteners and release linkages for damage, incomplete engagement or interference. Agree checks before use and a maintenance plan based on the manual. If engagement is uncertain, stop and arrange competent assessment. Do not bypass a lock or attempt a repair beneath an insecure vehicle.

Make commissioning and handover part of the order
HSE's motor repair guidance says an installed lift must be tested before use by a competent person, who issues a certificate. Use that as an acceptance condition for your home installation. Agree the test procedure and responsible specialist in advance. Follow our machinery installation guide for the wider project arrangements.
Ask the commissioning specialist to document anchorage acceptance, controls, travel limits, synchronisation where fitted, locks, leaks, isolation and emergency lowering. Arrange controlled functional and load testing as specified by the specialist and manufacturer, with everyone clear of danger. Obtain signed results, resolved defects, operating instruction and a maintenance plan before use. Cambridge China Bridge's staff in China can gather factory evidence; site acceptance needs the relevant specialists.
Frequently asked questions
How thick must my garage concrete be for a lift?
There is no useful generic answer for an unknown slab and lift. Give a structural engineer the exact foundation loads and specification, then establish the slab's construction, condition and suitability.
Can I use the anchor bolts supplied with the lift?
Only after the exact anchor product and arrangement have been accepted for the assessed slab and lift loads. Keep the installation record and resolve substitutions before fitting.
Is a hydraulic safety valve enough to work underneath?
Do not treat a valve as proof of mechanical support. Have the specialist identify and demonstrate the lift's load-support locks and arm restraints, following the manufacturer's procedure.
Can I install a Chinese vehicle lift myself?
Arrange a competent installer and commissioning specialist before buying. Anchoring the posts and powering the motor do not establish that the slab, locks or completed installation are safe.
