Sourcing rubber round drive belts from China
Rubber round drive belts from China normally carry 6% UK duty. Heading 4010 includes 0% suspensions for specified vehicle-manufacturing belts, which do not cover ordinary round belts. Check applicable UK REACH restrictions for the rubber compound. Cambridge China Bridge sources rubber round drive belts.

UK duty on rubber round drive belts
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 4010 covers conveyor or transmission belts or belting of vulcanised rubber. Round-section rubber drive belts fall within the other transmission belts category, provisionally 4010 39 00 90. The table shows purchasing variants sharing this tariff line.
This line carries 6% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure, suspension or attached import control in the supplied tariff record. Suspensions elsewhere in the heading concern specified V-ribbed belts for vehicle manufacture. They do not provide relief for ordinary round drive belts.
Confirm the material, circular cross-section and transmission function before choosing the commodity code. Polyurethane belting is treated separately from vulcanised rubber in the published background guide. For the wider product family, see rubber flat transmission belts.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moulded endless vulcanised rubber round drive belts | 4010 39 00 90 | 6% | None |
Specify diameter, fitted length and rubber compound
Give the factory a drawing and an approved sample. State the circular cross-section diameter, relaxed circumference, measurement method, dimensional tolerances, rubber compound, hardness and reinforcement. Specify whether the belt is moulded endless or joined. Record the pulley groove, installed stretch, operating load and exposure to heat, oil or cleaning agents.
UK REACH restrictions cover chemical risks in articles. Ask the supplier to identify the compound and provide evidence addressing applicable restrictions for its ingredients and intended use. Check product-specific legislation when assessing marking requirements. For replacement belts, retain the machine reference and intended application alongside the purchase specification.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative mixed-size replacement-stock batch of rubber round drive belts under 4010 39 00 90, invoiced at £24,000 free on board, with £3,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £27,500. Duty at 6% is £1,650. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £29,150, so it is £5,830. Import taxes total £7,480; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,650 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Dimensions: measure cross-section diameter around the belt and relaxed circumference using the agreed method. Compare the results with the drawing and approved sample.
Surface and joint: inspect for cracks, voids, excess flash and an uneven joint. Flex the joint and compare its diameter with the surrounding belt.
Drive trial: check seating in the intended pulley groove, grip, tracking and recovery after stretching. Record slip, vibration and permanent elongation under the agreed operating conditions.
Batch identity: match packaging, size references and compound records to the order. Keep inspected samples and record results before releasing stock. See quality inspection explained.

What goes wrong
A belt can match the stated circumference yet fit badly because the supplier measured it under tension or used a different diameter. Excessive installed stretch overloads a weak joint; insufficient stretch allows slipping. An uneven joint can cause vibration as it passes through the pulley.
Substituting polyurethane for rubber changes the material specification and can change classification. A compound selected without considering oil, heat or cleaning exposure may soften, crack or lose grip. Approve the actual construction on the intended drive, then compare production samples with it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on rubber round drive belts from China?
The supplied tariff record gives 6% for 4010 39 00 90, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspension or attached import control.
Are polyurethane round belts covered by this guide?
This guide covers vulcanised rubber. The published background guide treats polyurethane belting as plastic articles, so confirm the material before selecting a code.
What dimensions should I give the belt factory?
Specify cross-section diameter, relaxed circumference, measurement method and tolerances. Include the pulley groove, installed stretch and whether the belt is moulded endless or joined.
Do rubber round drive belts need CE or UKCA marking?
Check product-specific legislation for the belt and its intended application. Record whether it is a replacement component or supplied with equipment; do not decide marking requirements from its tariff heading alone.
