Sourcing rubber round-baler belts from China
Rubber round-baler belts from China carry 6% UK duty across the relevant conveyor and other transmission belt lines. Classification depends on construction and function; REACH restrictions can affect substances in articles. Cambridge China Bridge sources rubber round-baler belts.

UK duty on rubber round-baler belts
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 4010 covers conveyor or transmission belts and belting of vulcanised rubber. For round-baler belts, establish whether the product conveys crop or transmits power, then identify its reinforcement. The table gives alternative classifications to discuss with your broker, rather than interchangeable codes.
The selected lines carry 6% duty on goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or attached import control for these lines. Suspensions elsewhere in the heading concern specified V-ribbed transmission belts for vehicle manufacture; they are not a general relief for round-baler belts. Import VAT is normally 20%.
Give your broker the rubber composition, reinforcement details, cross-section, joint design and intended function to confirm the commodity code. For the wider product family, see rubber flat transmission belts.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Textile-reinforced rubber conveyor belting | 4010 12 00 00 | 6% | None |
| Other reinforced rubber conveyor belting | 4010 19 00 00 | 6% | None |
| Metal-only reinforced rubber conveyor belting | 4010 11 00 00 | 6% | None |
| Other rubber transmission belts or belting | 4010 39 00 90 | 6% | None |
Specify the baler fit, belt surface and joint
State the baler make, model and replacement part reference alongside a drawing. Specify finished width, thickness, working length and the measurement method, including whether length includes the joint. Record the surface pattern, direction of travel, carcass material, ply construction and cover thickness. Distinguish endless belts from open lengths supplied for joining.
For mechanically joined belts, agree the fastener type, pin material, joint alignment and installation method. For endless belts, agree the splice construction. Where belts work together, specify matched lengths and acceptance tolerances. Approve a sample on the intended baler before ordering stock; a similar-looking surface does not establish fit.
REACH restrictions can limit, ban or condition the marketing or use of substances, including substances in articles. Ask for compound information and evidence addressing restrictions relevant to the belt materials. Components sold separately can be finished products in their own right; confirm the applicable product rules rather than relying on a certificate for the complete baler.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 12 rolls of textile-reinforced rubber belting for round-baler replacements under 4010 12 00 00, invoiced at £24,000 free on board, with £3,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £27,500. Duty at 6% is £1,650. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £29,150, so it is £5,830. Import taxes total £7,480; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,650 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Dimensions: measure finished width, thickness and length using the agreed method; compare belts intended to work as a set.
Surface and edges: compare the pattern and cover thickness with the approved sample; inspect for cracks, exposed fabric, uneven edges and packing damage.
Joint: check squareness, fastener seating, pin fit and splice separation; compare the delivered assembly with the approved joint sample.
Construction and records: match carcass and compound reports to the delivered batch. Agree tensile, ply adhesion and abrasion checks with the laboratory. Retain labelled samples and arrival photographs.

What goes wrong
A belt ordered by width alone can have the wrong length, thickness or surface pattern for the baler. Unequal lengths can leave belts carrying different loads. Poor ply adhesion can cause separation around the joint, while uneven edges encourage tracking problems. Fasteners that do not match the belt construction can damage the carcass.
Check the sample against the baler's rollers, tensioning arrangement and joining equipment before approving production. Agree how dimensions and joint quality will be checked before dispatch and on arrival. Record deviations before fitting the belts, using a documented quality inspection process.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on rubber round-baler belts from China?
The relevant heading 4010 conveyor and other transmission belt lines carry 6% duty. The supplied tariff record shows no anti-dumping or countervailing duty on these lines. Import VAT is normally 20%.
Which commodity code should I use for round-baler belts?
Confirm the belt's function and reinforcement. Textile-only reinforced conveyor belting is 4010 12 00 00; other transmission belting may fall under 4010 39 00 90. Ask your broker to confirm the actual product.
Can I order replacement baler belts by model name alone?
Send the model and part reference, but also agree a drawing, width, thickness, working length, surface pattern and joint. Check the sample on the intended baler before approving production.
Does a complete baler's certificate cover replacement belts?
Do not assume it does. Components sold separately can be finished products in their own right. Confirm the rules for the replacement belt and obtain material and construction evidence for the supplied batch.
