Sourcing industrial spray dryers from China
Industrial spray dryers from China carry 0% UK duty; the related lines shown also carry 0%. Machinery must be safe before supply or use in Great Britain. Check the attached fluorinated-gas control and prove drying performance with your feed material. Cambridge China Bridge sources industrial spray dryers.

UK duty on industrial spray dryers
Heading 8419 covers non-domestic equipment that treats materials through temperature change. Spray dryers are expressly included under 8419 33 00 00. The other table rows distinguish other drying processes, separately supplied heat exchangers and parts; they are not interchangeable codes for a complete spray dryer.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 10 December 2026, all selected lines carry 0% duty for goods from China, with no listed anti-dumping duty, countervailing duty or suspensions. The spray-dryer and other-dryer lines have a fluorinated greenhouse gas import control. Confirm the declaration requirement with your customs broker. If the installation includes imported fluorinated-gas equipment, that equipment must be correctly labelled, including when supplied empty.
Confirm the commodity code using the drying process, equipment drawings and shipment contents. Give your broker any refrigerant details and ask which gas-control requirements apply to the actual configuration. For the wider heading, see freeze dryers.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spray dryers; the same line also covers freeze dryers | 8419 33 00 00 | 0% | None |
| Other dryers, for comparison where the process is not spray drying | 8419 39 00 00 | 0% | None |
| Other heat-exchange units supplied separately | 8419 50 80 90 | 0% | None |
| Other temperature-treatment machinery parts supplied separately | 8419 90 85 90 | 0% | None |
Specify the feed, atomiser and powder endpoint
Describe the feed composition, solids content, viscosity, solvent and sensitivity to heat. Specify evaporation duty separately from recovered powder output. Agree final moisture, particle characteristics and acceptable product loss. Choose nozzle or rotary atomisation with the factory against your material, and request a witnessed trial recording feed rate, inlet and outlet air temperatures, powder yield and wall deposits.
Define the heating method, air filtration, cyclone or filter collection, contact materials, seals and cleaning access. Agree utility connections, installation space and which ducts, fans and controls are included. Where dangerous substances are involved, employers must assess the risks before work starts. Arrange a specialist review of combustible powder or solvent hazards before agreeing the dryer and collector design.
Machinery must be safe before being placed on the Great Britain market or put into service. Confirm any applicable conformity-marking requirements with the relevant authority. Request the model's declaration of conformity, English operating instructions and installation drawings. Match these documents to the complete supplied configuration through testing and certification.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: a compact industrial spray dryer with feed pump and powder collector under 8419 33 00 00, invoiced at £28,000 free on board, with £4,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £32,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £32,000, so it is £6,400. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Process trial: use representative feed and record feed consumption, collected powder, residual moisture and deposits against the agreed acceptance criteria.
Product path: inspect chamber welds, nozzle or atomiser condition, seals, collector joints, drains and access for removing powder and cleaning.
Controls: witness an agreed safe test of guards, emergency stops, airflow and temperature alarms, and the response to loss of feed or extraction.
Arrival: inspect chamber dents, damaged insulation, collector seals and loose fittings. Match nameplates, manuals and supplied components to the packing list, then repeat acceptance checks after installation. Prepare a written inspection brief.

What goes wrong
A water-evaporation demonstration does not establish powder recovery with your feed. Sticky deposits, nozzle blockage, fines escaping collection and heat damage can make an apparently adequate dryer unsuitable. Put the trial material, sampling method and acceptance criteria in the purchase specification.
Missing ductwork, unsuitable site utilities and poor cleaning access can delay commissioning. Do not accept a general claim of explosion protection without a review of the actual material and installation. Ask for packing supports that protect the chamber and atomiser, and identify replacement seals and wearing parts before shipment.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on industrial spray dryers from China?
The supplied tariff record shows 0% under 8419 33 00 00, with no anti-dumping duty, countervailing duty or suspensions. The related lines shown also carry 0%.
Which commodity code covers a spray dryer?
8419 33 00 00 expressly includes spray dryers. Confirm the shipment's configuration with your broker, especially where heat exchangers or parts arrive separately.
What should a spray-dryer factory trial prove?
Use your feed to demonstrate evaporation duty, powder recovery, residual moisture and particle characteristics. Record deposits, collection losses and the cleaning procedure.
Does a spray dryer without refrigerant avoid the gas control?
Do not assume so. The tariff attaches the control to the commodity line. Tell your broker whether refrigerant is present and confirm the applicable declaration requirement.
