Duty on forged steel pipe flanges

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, the stainless steel and other steel flange lines carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff data lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension, steel measure or import control on these lines.

Heading 7307 covers iron or steel tube and pipe fittings. This guide covers forged pipe flanges; the table repeats the relevant flange codes for different purchase specifications. See the wider steel pipe fittings guide. Confirm the commodity code using the material and finished product description.

Confirm with the relevant authority or your customs broker whether these flanges fall within the UK carbon border adjustment mechanism for imports from 1 January 2027. Ask the factory for emissions data alongside material certificates when planning later imports.

Specify the flange and its mating connection

State the forged material grade, flange type, nominal pipe size, pressure class and operating temperature. Attach a drawing showing the bore, neck, thickness, bolt-hole pattern and sealing face. Agree the flange standard, face finish, coating and certificate content before production.

Ask for material certificates tied to the heat numbers on the flanges, plus the agreed heat-treatment and inspection records. Pressure equipment rules cover piping and, where applicable, attached elements; ask the system designer to assess the intended application. For drinking-water supply, confirm the applicable quality and standard requirements under the Water Fittings Regulations with the relevant authority.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 10 tonnes of forged steel pipe flanges under 7307 91 00 90, invoiced at £18,000 free on board, with £2,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £20,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £20,000, so it is £4,000. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Material: match flange markings and heat numbers to the material certificates, order and packing list.

Dimensions: measure bore, thickness, neck and bolt-hole positions against the approved drawing; trial-fit a mating flange where practical.

Sealing face: check flatness, machining finish, scratches and handling damage. Confirm that protective packing keeps metal contact away from the sealing surface.

Batch evidence: check the agreed inspection and test records against the supplied batch. Repeat dimensional and damage checks on arrival; use the inspection guide to plan checks before shipment.

What goes wrong

A flange can have the correct nominal size but the wrong bolt-hole pattern or sealing face. Thin sections, damaged faces and a mismatched bore create installation problems. A catalogue pressure rating gives little buying assurance when the material certificate does not match the heat number.

Make the approved drawing and certificate requirements part of the order. Resolve discrepancies before shipment and keep affected stock separate on arrival until the supplier and buyer agree its disposition.
