UK duty on ceramic urinals

Heading 6910 covers ceramic sanitary fixtures, including urinals. Porcelain or china urinals fall under 6910 10 00 00; other ceramic urinals fall under 6910 90 00 00. The repeated codes in the table distinguish installation styles, rather than separate tariff lines. See the wider sanitaryware guide.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 16 October 2026, both lines carry 6% duty for goods from China, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspension. Both attach an import waste control. Waste shipment controls apply only to waste; ask your customs broker to confirm the declaration required for new urinals from China. The attached waste export control and cultural-object export licence entries concern export procedures.

Confirm the ceramic body material and complete product description with your broker before using the commodity-code guide. Do not choose the code from the glaze colour or installation style alone.

Specify the outlet, fixings and flush system

Specify wall-hung or floor-standing construction, body material, overall dimensions, fixing centres, inlet position, outlet direction and connection dimensions. Name the trap, seals, brackets and flush fittings supplied. Approve a sample against the installation drawing and try it with the intended fittings before accepting production.

Fix the glaze colour, visible-surface acceptance criteria and packing method. Ask for test evidence supporting flush and water-use claims. For applicable construction-product requirements, obtain the declaration of performance and test basis, and check importer identification. Legitimately CE-marked construction products can continue to be supplied in Great Britain without an additional UKCA mark.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative distributor stock order of individually packed porcelain urinals under 6910 10 00 00, invoiced at £16,000 free on board, with £1,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £17,500. Duty at 6% is £1,050. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £18,550, so it is £3,710. Import taxes total £4,760; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,050 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Body and glaze: check for cracks, chipped rims, glaze crazing, pinholes and colour differences against the approved sample.

Installation fit: measure fixing centres, inlet and outlet positions; trial-fit the specified brackets, trap and seals without forcing connections.

Flush and drainage: test sampled urinals with the agreed flush arrangement, checking bowl coverage, splash, drainage and leaks at connections.

Packing and arrival: check cushioning around rims and outlets, carton model marks and fittings counts; photograph damaged cartons and inspect their contents before installation.

What goes wrong

An outlet or fixing pattern that differs from the drawing can leave an installer unable to connect the urinal. Missing traps or brackets delay installation, while a flush arrangement approved separately from the bowl can give poor coverage or excessive splash. Approve the bowl and fittings together.

Cracks can hide around fixing holes and outlets, and inadequate separation allows ceramic surfaces to strike each other in transit. Check these areas before loading and again on arrival. Use the inspection guide to agree the report and acceptance criteria.
