UK duty on ceramic bidets

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 6910 covers ceramic sanitary fixtures, including bidets. Porcelain or china bidets fall under 6910 10 00 00; bidets of other ceramics fall under 6910 90 00 00. Both lines carry 6% duty for goods from China, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspension.

The tariff attaches a waste import control. Waste shipment controls apply only where the material is waste. For a shipment from China, ask your customs broker to confirm the applicable requirement and evidence of non-waste status. The supplied tariff record also lists waste export controls and a cultural-object export licence control; ask the broker to confirm their relevance if exporting the goods.

Confirm the ceramic body material and complete product description using finding your commodity code. Mounting style does not distinguish the material lines shown here. For another product family within the wider heading, see ceramic urinals.

Specify mounting, tap holes and drainage

Fix the body material, floor-standing or wall-hung design, glaze colour and approved sample in the order. Attach a drawing showing fixing centres, support surfaces, tap holes, overflow, waste outlet and access for connections. Identify the tap, waste, brackets and fixings supplied, and trial-fit the intended components before approving production.

Ask the intended installer to assess the water inlet arrangement and backflow protection, particularly for a spray or flexible hose. For Great Britain, confirm with the relevant authority whether a designated standard or UK technical assessment covers the product and which marking and declaration of performance requirements apply, including whether compliant CE-marked construction products are accepted. Also confirm the importer identification requirements and the checks expected on the manufacturer's obligations, using the published sanitaryware guide as a starting point.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 50 wall-hung porcelain bidets, illustrative order under 6910 10 00 00, invoiced at £16,000 free on board, with £1,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £17,500. Duty at 6% is £1,050. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £18,550, so it is £3,710. Import taxes total £4,760; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,050 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Ceramic body: check glaze shade against the approved sample, then inspect the bowl, underside and fixing areas for cracks, chips, pinholes and distortion.

Mounting: measure fixing centres and contact surfaces against the drawing, and trial-fit the specified wall support or floor fixings without forcing the ceramic.

Drainage: fit the agreed waste and tap components, check sealing surfaces, and test drainage and leakage using the agreed sample procedure.

Packing and records: check separated cushioning around rims and projections, model marks, fittings and carton counts. On arrival, photograph damaged packaging and inspect the enclosed ceramic before installation. See quality inspection explained.

What goes wrong

A bidet can match the catalogue photograph but fail to fit the intended support frame, tap or waste. Distorted mounting surfaces can make it rock, while a rough waste seating face can prevent a seal. Approve the drawing and an assembled sample rather than relying on an overall size.

Glaze variation becomes visible beside matching bathroom ceramics, and concealed cracks can be missed until unpacking. Agree an acceptable finish sample and packing method, inspect the underside as well as the bowl, and record arrival damage before fitting.
