Sourcing acoustic laminated glass from China

Acoustic laminated safety glass from China carries 0% UK duty across the listed laminated-glass lines. For building use, obtain the declaration of performance and applicable conformity marking, and match acoustic reports to the ordered build-up. Zero duty on acoustic laminated safety glass

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 7007 covers toughened and laminated safety glass. Non-vehicle acoustic laminated safety panes fall within 7007 29 00 00. The table shows product forms sharing that tariff line, rather than separate acoustic-glass codes. See the wider safety-glass guide for the rest of the heading. For greenhouse glazing, see our guide to sourcing toughened greenhouse glass from China. For floor applications, see our guide to sourcing laminated glass floor panels.

The supplied snapshot records 0% duty for goods from China on this line, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure, suspension or attached import control. Zero customs duty does not remove import VAT. See UK import duty and VAT for the calculation.

Confirm the commodity code using the finished product, intended use and drawings. Glass shaped for vehicles has separate laminated-glass lines. An insulating glass unit containing an acoustic laminated pane is a different product from the pane supplied alone.

Specify the acoustic interlayer and glass build-up

Specify each glass layer, its thickness and treatment, the acoustic interlayer manufacturer and product, interlayer thickness, overall dimensions, edge finish, holes and coating orientation. Agree any substitution before production. Request an acoustic test report identifying the same build-up and test arrangement, with the result your project designer needs.

Ask whether the acoustic report covers a pane, an insulating unit or a complete framed assembly. Have the designer check its relevance to the proposed frame, seals and installation. For building glass, obtain the declaration of performance and applicable conformity marking. CE marking remains available for construction products placed on the Great Britain market. Match the documents to the ordered product.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 800 acoustic laminated partition panes, illustrative order under 7007 29 00 00, invoiced at £40,000 free on board, with £5,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £45,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £45,000, so it is £9,000. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Build-up: compare production records and sampled pane thickness with the approved specification; match the interlayer product and batch records to the acoustic report.

Dimensions: measure length, width, diagonals, holes and edge finish against the approved drawing. Check fit using the intended fittings or a template.

Appearance and documents: inspect for bubbles, inclusions, scratches and edge separation. Match pane identification, marking and the declaration of performance to the delivery.

Arrival: photograph crates before unloading, then check supports, interleaving, chipped edges and broken panes. Record affected pane references during quality inspection.

What goes wrong

An acoustic report may describe a different interlayer or glass build-up from the shipment. A factory substitution can leave the buyer without evidence for the ordered acoustic performance. Resolve discrepancies before shipment and keep approved specifications, reports and production records together.

Bubbles, edge separation, scratches and chipped corners can make panes unacceptable on arrival. Incorrect dimensions prevent fitting, while gaps around the installed glazing can undermine the intended sound insulation. Agree appearance acceptance, packaging and installation details before ordering.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For own-brand ranges, see sourcing for brands.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on acoustic laminated glass from China?

The supplied tariff snapshot records 0% duty for non-vehicle laminated safety glass under 7007 29 00 00, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure.

What acoustic test report should I ask the factory for?

Ask for a report identifying the ordered glass layers, acoustic interlayer and test arrangement. Have your designer check whether it supports the proposed glazing assembly.

Does acoustic laminated building glass need compliance documents?

Obtain the declaration of performance and applicable conformity marking for building glass. Match them to the product supplied. CE marking remains available for construction products in Great Britain.

Can ordinary laminated glass replace the specified acoustic glass?

Approve a replacement only after checking its build-up and relevant acoustic evidence with your designer. Matching overall thickness alone does not establish the specified acoustic performance.
