Buying a robotic lawnmower from China: safety checks
Verify the exact mower against your garden layout, including boundary failures, slopes, pond edges and blade stopping. Keep children and pets out during mowing, confirm the outdoor charging installation and agree replacement-part support before paying. Ask Cambridge China Bridge to obtain the factory evidence.

Match the ordered mower to your garden
Send the factory a garden plan showing slopes, ponds, steps, paths, narrow passages, trees and the proposed charging location. Request the exact model, software version, English instructions, conformity declaration and supporting test reports. Match these to the supplied mower, battery, charging station and power supply. Use our supplier verification guide for the separate company checks.
Buying for your own garden does not create a blanket exemption from product rules. Machinery safety rules address bringing equipment into service as well as market supply. Our own-use import guide explains that distinction. Have a product compliance specialist review the ordered configuration; a garden demonstration cannot establish legal compliance.
Check what happens when the boundary fails
Ask whether containment uses boundary wire, satellite positioning, cameras or a combination. Obtain written explanations of what happens after a broken wire, lost positioning signal, obscured camera, power interruption or map reset. Ask whether the mower stops safely, how it alerts you and what permits it to restart. A successful run on an open demonstration lawn does not settle these questions.
Arrange a supervised trial away from water, roads and drops, using the manufacturer's safe procedure. Include tree cover, walls, narrow passages and the route back to the dock. Ask the supplier to demonstrate relevant signal failures in a controlled area. Record the configuration and results, then repeat the garden checks after installation or changes to mapping and software.
Treat slopes and pond edges separately
Measure your slopes and send the results to the manufacturer with photographs. Ask it to distinguish the permitted mowing slope from the permitted slope at a boundary or docking approach, and to state the measurement units. Request confirmation for travel across slopes, downhill turning, uneven ground and damp grass. Do not translate a headline climbing claim into permission to mow every bank.
For ponds, retaining walls and steps, request a site-specific exclusion layout and the manufacturer's stated setback. Plan a suitable physical barrier where crossing the mapped boundary could cause harm. Do not deliberately test containment beside the hazard. If the supplier cannot confirm a safe arrangement, exclude that area and cut it separately.
Verify blade stopping and control access
Request model-specific evidence for blade stopping when the mower is lifted or tilted, when the stop control is pressed and when a relevant safety fault occurs. Ask for measured stopping results, test conditions and restart behaviour, including scheduled and remote starts. Use our test-report verification guide to check the evidence. Have a competent specialist assess it; never reach underneath or improvise a live lifting test.
An official Honda Miimo recall identifies an injury risk when a sensor fails to detect objects. Plan to keep children, pets and visitors outside the mowing area during operation rather than relying on obstacle recognition. Check gates, accessible controls and who can start the mower remotely. Before clearing debris or changing blades, follow the manufacturer's isolation procedure and confirm the blades have stopped.
Approve the complete charging arrangement
Ask the manufacturer to confirm the mower, battery, dock and power supply as a compatible combination. Obtain instructions for outdoor exposure, drainage, ventilation, temperature limits and seasonal storage. Check the permitted locations of connectors and the power supply, rather than assuming every part can remain outside. Our imported charger guide covers the electrical evidence.
Have a competent electrician assess the garden supply, socket protection and cable route, including whether residual current protection is suitable. Avoid charging locations prone to standing water and leads exposed to mowing or foot traffic. Confirm what happens after supply loss and restoration. Resolve installation questions before ordering instead of planning to adapt an unsuitable plug or charger.

Make parts and fault support part of the order
Obtain a parts list covering approved blades and fasteners, batteries, wheels, sensors, charging contacts, boundary equipment and power supplies. Ask for exact identifiers, current availability, compatibility checks and who supplies replacements to the UK. Clarify which repairs an owner may perform and which need a service agent. Use our machinery after-sales guide to record the support arrangement.
Agree the fault contact, diagnostic evidence, repair location, carriage responsibility and remedy if parts become unavailable. Check whether mapping, remote control or normal operation depends on an account, subscription or continuing cloud service. Record the approved configuration and acceptance checks before payment. Cambridge China Bridge's own staff in China can obtain factory documents and check the supplied configuration against the order.
Frequently asked questions
Can a wireless robotic mower work under trees?
Ask for a trial with comparable tree cover and walls, plus evidence of safe behaviour when positioning is lost. Confirm the installed garden layout before allowing unattended operation.
Can a robotic mower cut beside a pond?
Only include the area after confirming the manufacturer's setback, terrain limits and a suitable barrier arrangement. Exclude the bank if safe containment cannot be established.
Are robotic lawnmowers safe around children and pets?
Keep children and pets outside the mowing area during operation. Verify blade stopping and restart controls, but do not treat obstacle detection as permission for them to share the lawn.
Can I buy replacement mower parts directly from China?
Confirm exact part identifiers, approved compatibility, availability and UK delivery arrangements before buying the mower. Agree who handles diagnosis and repairs if the replacement does not solve the fault.
