Can I order vapes from China for personal use?
An own-use description does not settle whether a China vape order can be imported and delivered. Check the exact product, disposable-vape restrictions, excise treatment and carrier acceptance before paying. Ask HMRC to assess the proposed parcel. Supplier information can be gathered by Cambridge China Bridge.

Describe the purchase before claiming personal use
Separate a private purchase for your own consumption from stock for your business, customers or colleagues. Keeping the goods yourself does not create a blanket exemption from product rules. Our own-use imports guide explains why the supplier's sale and your intended use need separate consideration.
Give HMRC the seller's details, delivery address, device model, liquid composition, nicotine strength, total liquid volume and intended use. State whether delivery is to Great Britain or Northern Ireland. Ask for the treatment of a posted or couriered purchase specifically, rather than an answer about travellers carrying goods home.
Check disposable-vape restrictions separately
UK guidance makes it illegal for businesses to sell or supply single-use vapes. Describing your purchase as personal use does not resolve the supplier's sale or supply position. Ask Trading Standards to assess the actual transaction before paying for a disposable model.
For a product advertised as reusable, request instructions and photographs showing how it is recharged, refilled and maintained, together with details of replacement parts. Do not accept the product name as the assessment. If you intend to supply products commercially, use our vape sourcing guide for the wider buying checks.
Include the current excise requirements
Vaping Products Duty came into force on 1 October 2026. HMRC states that vaping liquids are liable whether they contain nicotine or not. For imports, duty must be accounted for unless the goods immediately enter duty suspension, such as an approved excise or customs warehouse.
Ask HMRC or your customs agent for a written assessment of the parcel's excise treatment, including whether any personal-use exception to stamping applies. Confirm who makes the customs declaration and pays the duty. Request separate calculations for import VAT, customs duty and carrier fees using our import duty and VAT guide.
Keep traveller allowances out of the parcel calculation
Ask HMRC to confirm whether any personal allowance applies to a factory order sent by post or courier, rather than assuming that Great Britain's accompanied traveller allowances apply. Do not use a traveller allowance to justify a supplier's claim that your parcel is tax-free.
Ask the clearance agent to distinguish empty devices from bottles, filled pods and devices containing liquid. Provide actual liquid volumes rather than advertised puff counts. Keep the invoice, product descriptions and tax assessment together, and resolve any disagreement before authorising dispatch.

Get carrier acceptance before payment
Send the chosen carrier the device and battery specifications, liquid composition, nicotine strength, quantities and proposed packaging. Request written acceptance for the exact service from China to your delivery address, including whether it accepts a private recipient. Our battery and dangerous-goods shipping guide covers the transport evidence to gather.
Ask what happens if collection, transit or UK clearance fails, who pays return or disposal costs, and whether payment can be withheld until acceptance is confirmed. Hold payment while these answers are missing. Cambridge China Bridge's own staff in China can gather factory information and packing photographs for the specialist and carrier review.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order vapes from China just for myself?
Do not rely on an own-use label alone. Have the exact product and transaction assessed, obtain HMRC's parcel-specific excise treatment and get written carrier acceptance before paying.
Can I buy disposable vapes from China for personal use?
UK businesses cannot sell or supply single-use vapes. Ask Trading Standards to assess the proposed overseas sale and delivery; a personal-use description does not settle that transaction.
Does nicotine-free e-liquid attract vaping duty?
Yes. Ask your customs agent to confirm the duty treatment and payment arrangements for the actual parcel.
Can I use my traveller allowance for a courier order?
Ask HMRC to confirm whether any personal allowance applies to your posted or couriered order. Obtain a separate tax and clearance assessment rather than assuming that Great Britain's accompanied traveller allowances apply.
