How to create GB energy labels for light sources
Match the imported model to its test evidence and product information sheet, then enter the verified details into the UK energy label generator. Check the printed packaging and scan its QR code to the exact model’s public information. Cambridge China Bridge can coordinate the factory evidence and artwork checks.

Set the model and market before designing
This workflow is for light sources being supplied to Great Britain. The importer that first places a regulated product on that market is responsible for compliance. Identify the light source being sold and confirm whether it falls within scope before commissioning artwork; do not assume every complete lighting fitting needs the same label. For appliances, see our guide to fridge and washing machine energy labels. For tumble dryers, see our guide to the energy label easement.
Create a model record linking the buyer’s product code, factory reference, brand and approved configuration. Our commercial lighting guide covers the wider purchasing brief, while the electrical imports guide covers the separate electrical compliance work.
Build the evidence behind the label
Suppliers must produce labels and product information sheets with technical documentation that allows their accuracy to be assessed. Ask the factory for the exact model’s reports, measured power consumption, light output, test conditions and proposed information sheet. Ask the laboratory to explain how the results support the declared energy class and consumption figure.
Check that the tested light source, driver and operating configuration match the order. Resolve unexplained differences before entering values into the generator. Use the test-report verification guide to check report identity and authenticity. Keep a record showing where each declared value came from.
Generate the label from approved information
Open the UK government’s Create an energy label service and select lamps and light sources. For a new import, use the rescaled label. Prepare the supplier name or trade mark, model identifier, energy class, consumption figure and product information sheet destination before starting.
Use the approved information sheet as the input record. Download the label and compare it with that record before sending it to the packaging designer. Treat generation as an artwork step: the exported image does not resolve missing test evidence or a disputed energy class.
Approve the packaging at printed size
For newly placed light sources, the rescaled label must be printed on the packaging. The generator specifies a standard label of at least 36mm x 72mm and a small version of at least 20mm x 54mm. Use the small label only on packaging less than 36mm wide. If the full label is not on the front, the energy-rating arrow must appear there clearly and legibly.
Request a printed packaging proof. Check the supplier name, model, energy class, consumption, label dimensions and QR code against the approved file. Keep the label proportions intact and inspect the actual pack rather than only a screen image. Give the factory and inspector the same approved artwork through the sample-to-production guide.

Publish and test the QR-code destination
The GB label must carry the UK flag and English text. Its applicable QR code must link to the required model information on a publicly accessible website; the light-source generator asks for a link to the product information sheet. Use a destination for that exact model, rather than a company homepage or a generic catalogue.
Open the destination without signing in, compare the information sheet with the label, and scan the code on the printed proof. Assign someone to maintain the page and prevent broken links or replacement by another model’s sheet. Archive the approved sheet, generated label, packaging proof and scan result together before releasing the artwork.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the factory’s energy label?
Only after checking its model details, supporting evidence, GB artwork and QR destination. Ask for the underlying reports and information sheet before approving the pack.
Does the UK label generator test the product?
Use it to create artwork from approved product information. Obtain and review the model’s test evidence separately; generating an image does not establish that its declared values are correct.
Where should a GB light-source QR code link?
To the exact model’s product information sheet on a publicly accessible website. Test the destination without signing in and scan the printed packaging proof.
Can I shrink the label to fit a small box?
Use the prescribed small version only on packaging less than 36mm wide. Its minimum size is 20mm x 54mm. Check a printed proof before approving production.
