Getting started

GB energy labels for fridges and washing machines

Prepare a checked pack for each model: printed and electronic energy labels, the product information sheet, an advertising arrow, public model links and supporting technical records. Give dealers matching files and test their listings before launch. Coordinate the factory evidence and artwork with Cambridge China Bridge.

Agree the model and the handover owner

The importer first placing a regulated appliance on the Great Britain market has supplier responsibility for energy-labelling compliance. Dealers also have display duties. Agree who prepares the files, who hosts the model information and who checks each sales channel. For tumble dryers, see our guide to the energy label easement.

Ask the factory for evidence matching the ordered model and configuration. Record the factory model, your sales model and the brand together, so artwork does not drift between versions. Use our electrical imports guide and conformity marking guide for the wider compliance work.

Prepare the printed label and product sheet

Supply accurate printed energy labels and provide dealer labels promptly and free of charge. Include the product information sheet with each appliance. GB labels require the UK flag and English text; where applicable, their QR code must lead to required model information on a publicly accessible website.

Request the product information sheet before preparing artwork. The official energy-label service can generate labels and downloadable arrows. Check the model identity and declared performance against the supporting evidence, then approve the print file and electronic copy together.

Give dealers usable advertising assets

For these appliances, visual advertisements and technical promotional material need an arrow showing the energy class and the range of classes. Dealers must provide the label or product sheet on a publicly accessible website and paper copies on request.

Send the arrow as a separate asset, with the approved label and sheet. Ask dealers to return a shop-display photograph and a sample advert for checking. Include boxed display stock in the review: the label must remain visible when the appliance is displayed only in its packaging.

Test the listing and linked model information

For internet selling, the energy arrow alongside the product must link to its full label. The product information sheet must be available alongside the product or through a public website link.

Keep the arrow link and the label’s QR destination clearly identified in the handover. Open both without signing in and confirm they describe the selected model. Test mobile listings and model selectors; changing the appliance variant should not leave the previous variant’s files on screen.

Keep the evidence after manufacture stops

Retain supporting technical documentation for 15 years after manufacturing stops and make it available to the Office for Product Safety and Standards on request.

Record the manufacturing end date with the factory. Archive approved artwork, sheets, test evidence, dealer handovers and listing captures by model and revision. Agree who updates dealers when a file changes. Cambridge China Bridge has its own staff in China; use them to coordinate factory evidence and production checks.

Frequently asked questions

Does an imported fridge need a printed energy label?

Yes. In-scope appliances need an accurate printed energy label. Include the product information sheet with each appliance and give dealers matching electronic files.

Can an online listing show only an energy class?

Provide the class-and-range arrow linking to the full energy label, plus the product information sheet alongside the appliance or through a public link.

Where should a GB energy-label QR code link?

Where applicable, it must link to the required model information on a publicly accessible website. Test the destination without signing in and check that it matches the appliance.

How long must I keep energy-label documents?

Keep supporting technical documentation for 15 years after manufacturing stops. Record that end date rather than calculating retention from your last purchase.
