How to correct packaging EPR data after submission

Replace the uploaded packaging file with a corrected version, check the resubmission charge and keep a record explaining the changes. The deadline for corrections to affect disposal fees is separate from your duty to correct data. Ask for supporting factory packaging records from Cambridge China Bridge.

Identify the error and affected period

Save the submitted file before editing. Identify the affected reporting period, products and packaging components. Compare the reported entries with factory specifications, sample weights and shipment records. Establish whether the error came from a weight, quantity, classification or spreadsheet calculation.

Use our EPR scope guide for the underlying obligations and our reporting-file guide for file preparation. This guide focuses on correcting an existing submission.

Prepare a replacement reporting file

GOV.UK says to replace the previously uploaded file with a new version if you need to provide extra data. Save the completed file in CSV format. Build the revised file from your saved original, retaining unaffected entries and checking the corrected totals before replacing it.

If a compliance scheme reports for you, contact it to confirm what it needs and by when. Agree who will prepare, check and submit the revision. Keep the submission confirmation alongside the revised file, rather than treating an emailed spreadsheet as proof of resubmission.

Check which deadline applies

For producers paying packaging EPR fees, the cutoff for corrections to 2025 packaging data to affect Notices of Liability and disposal fees was 1 September 2026. That date has passed. Further resubmissions do not change those notices or disposal fees, but producers must continue correcting the data for their recycling obligations.

Do not treat that cutoff as a general extension of reporting deadlines or assume it applies to another reporting year. Check the GOV.UK deadlines guidance for the affected period. If you miss a deadline, contact your environmental regulator.

Check the resubmission charge

Changing packaging data after submission may attract a resubmission fee. GOV.UK lists £807 for organisations registered directly with their environmental regulator and £512 for those registered through a compliance scheme. These are possible resubmission charges, separate from the disposal-fee cutoff.

Ask the regulator or your scheme whether the charge applies to your correction before budgeting it. If you use a scheme, also ask whether its own service charge applies. Keep the reply and any invoice with the correction record.

Keep a record explaining the correction

As a practical audit trail, keep the original and revised files, a comparison of changed entries, the reason for each change, supporting evidence, the internal approval and submission confirmation. Explain how the revised totals reconcile with the source records. This is a working checklist, not a statement of a statutory retention period.

For factory-related errors, ask for a dated component-weight sheet linked to the product and packaging revision, plus an explanation of what changed. Our packaging sourcing guide covers supplier specifications. Cambridge China Bridge’s staff in China can help obtain the factory records needed to investigate a discrepancy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I correct packaging EPR data after submitting it?

Yes. GOV.UK says to replace the uploaded file with a new version when extra data is needed. Keep the original, check the revised file and retain confirmation of the resubmission.

Can I still correct my 2025 packaging data?

Yes. Corrections after 1 September 2026 do not affect Notices of Liability or disposal fees, but producers must continue resubmitting accurate data for recycling obligations.

How much does an EPR data resubmission cost?

A fee may apply: GOV.UK lists £807 for direct regulator registration and £512 for registration through a compliance scheme. Confirm whether it applies to your correction.

What records should explain an EPR correction?

Keep both file versions, changed entries, reasons, supporting factory or shipment records, approval and submission confirmation. Make the revised totals traceable to the evidence.
