Getting started

Will China acoustic panels block room noise?

Usually, decorative acoustic panels reduce echo inside a room rather than block noise passing into the next room. Meaningful isolation depends on the complete wall or floor, its junctions, doors and gaps. Assess the construction and agree any installed testing before ordering. Factory evidence can be coordinated by Cambridge China Bridge.

Separate absorption from insulation

Sound absorption reduces reflected sound within a room. Foam, felt and decorative slatted panels may make speech clearer or a room less echoey. Sound insulation limits sound passing between spaces. An absorption rating does not establish how much quieter the neighbouring bedroom will become.

Ask the factory whether its report measures absorption or transmission through a complete construction. Absorbent material can contribute inside a designed partition, but sticking an absorber onto an existing wall does not establish an insulation improvement. Buying from China changes neither distinction.

Assess the actual noise path

Describe the noise before selecting a product: voices, television, bass, footsteps or vibrating equipment. Record where it starts, where it is heard and when it matters. Ask an acoustic consultant to distinguish airborne noise from impact or structural vibration, especially where bass or footsteps dominate.

Have the complete construction assessed: wall or floor layers, cavities, frames, doors, seals, sockets, ducts and junctions. Sound can bypass the treated surface through adjoining walls, floors or ceiling voids. Ask which path limits performance and what treatment addresses it. Preserve necessary ventilation when discussing gaps and openings.

Buy evidence for the proposed assembly

Request the full report, specimen description and installation drawing. For absorption, check the backing, air gap and mounting. For insulation, check the complete tested wall or floor, including layers, fixings and junction details. Ask for results across frequencies relevant to your noise. A panel sample or a headline rating cannot predict the finished home's performance.

Compare the proposed installation with the tested assembly and ask the consultant to explain differences. Use our test report verification guide to check the evidence. Our construction materials guide covers the separate product paperwork questions; those documents do not replace an acoustic assessment.

Agree whether installed testing is needed

England's Approved Document E distinguishes internal construction within a home from construction separating homes. Its guidance for internal walls and floors does not intend performance to be verified by testing on site. For work separating homes, ask building control whether pre-completion sound insulation testing is required or an accepted alternative applies. Confirm the applicable guidance locally for projects elsewhere in the UK.

For an existing home's improvement project, consider commissioning measurements before and after treatment to assess the agreed outcome. Agree the receiving rooms, noise type, method, site conditions and acceptance criteria with an acoustic specialist. Where formal testing is required, agree the tester and reporting arrangements with building control before work starts. A listening demonstration or phone recording is not equivalent evidence.

Release the order against an installation plan

Agree the assembly with the installer before ordering. Record materials, backing, fixings, seals, junction details and permitted substitutions. Confirm who supplies each component and who checks concealed work before it is covered. Check fire and installation suitability separately using our home acoustic panel safety guide.

Cambridge China Bridge's own staff in China can coordinate factory reports, samples and production checks against the agreed specification. Keep responsibility for the building assessment and installed performance explicit. Agree how an unsuccessful result will be investigated and corrected before releasing the order.

Frequently asked questions

Will acoustic foam stop voices through my wall?

Usually it mainly reduces echo in the treated room. Have the wall, doors, gaps and adjoining construction assessed before buying it to reduce voices in another room.

Does an absorption rating prove soundproofing?

No. It describes absorption under the tested conditions. Ask for sound insulation evidence for the complete proposed wall or floor and an assessment of how it fits your home.

Do I need a sound test after fitting panels?

Agree this before installation. For work separating homes, ask building control about formal testing. For an existing home's improvement, an acoustic specialist can advise on measurements before and after treatment.

What should I request from a Chinese panel factory?

Request the full acoustic report, specimen details, mounting arrangement and material specification. Establish whether the report covers absorption or insulation, and compare it with your proposed installation.
