Importing from China to the Maldives: Registration
Start with importer registration: the President's Office states that only a party registered at the Ministry of Economic Development has the right to import into the Maldives. Ask your own broker to confirm your status and the final entry. For factory sourcing, inspection and a quote to your port, contact Cambridge China Bridge.
Buying from China for a business? How our UK China sourcing agent service works · China sourcing agent for businesses outside the UK

Start with the importing entity's registration
The President's Office states that only a party registered at the Ministry of Economic Development has the right to export, import or re-export in the Maldives. Before paying a factory deposit, ask your own customs broker to confirm the current registration procedure and your importing entity's status. Give them the proposed seller, Chinese exporter and Maldivian consignee details.
Agree who buys from the factory, who invoices you and whose name appears on the shipping documents. Send this arrangement to your broker for review. Our overseas buying guide covers the general sourcing arrangements; this guide adds the Maldives registration check and the handover to your local broker.
Get a product decision before approving production
Send your broker the product description, materials, intended use, model details and photographs. Ask them to identify any applicable import permissions, product registration, certification, testing and labelling requirements. Obtain written instructions before choosing a factory or approving packaging artwork.
Pass those instructions to our staff in China so the factory quotes against the correct specification and document brief. If you also buy for neighbouring markets, use our India guide and Sri Lanka guide for those destinations, and commission a separate Maldives assessment.
Agree the documents supplied from China
We coordinate the commercial invoice with the agreed seller and the packing list with the Chinese factory. If Cambridge China Bridge sells to you, send our draft sales invoice to your broker and explain that the goods ship directly from China. Have the broker review the parties, descriptions, quantities, values, weights and delivery term before dispatch.
Ask your broker whether a certificate of origin is needed and which form they accept; we coordinate obtaining it in China where agreed. The factory supplies available test reports, which we check against the ordered manufacturer, model and specification. Agree any additional testing before shipment, and reconcile the invoice, packing list, origin certificate and transport document.
Separate your port quote from arrival clearance
Give us your named Maldivian port and request a written quote showing the delivery term, freight, insurance arrangements and exclusions. Ask your broker to budget local duties, taxes, clearance, port charges and onward delivery separately, including transfer to your island where relevant. Our buy-through-a-UK-company service explains the purchasing arrangement.
Appoint your own customs broker to confirm classification and valuation, prepare and lodge the declaration, coordinate supporting documents and customs queries, and arrange examination, payment and release as agreed. Send document drafts before dispatch. Your own customs broker confirms the final entry; agree separately who collects the cargo and arranges onward transport.

Check the supplier and inspect before shipment
Our own staff in China check the supplier's identity, actual manufacturing site and ability to make the agreed product. We compare production capability with your specification and approved sample, and investigate differences between the quoted supplier, factory and payment details. Put your broker's product and document instructions into the purchase brief.
Before shipment, we inspect against agreed criteria covering materials, dimensions, function, workmanship, quantities, packaging and approved labels. Ask for photographs, recorded defects and a written release decision. Resolve failed checks and missing documents before authorising dispatch. Keep inspection findings and test reports together so your broker can review the shipment file.
