Importing from China to Austria: EORI registration

Start with your EORI registration: Austria provides self-registration through Portal Zoll, and EU guidance requires economic operators to communicate their number for customs operations. Name your seaport or border point and appoint your own broker. Sourcing and checks in China are managed by Cambridge China Bridge.

Start with your customs registration

Make EORI registration your starting check. Austria's finance ministry says registration is carried out as self-registration through Portal Zoll. EU guidance says economic operators must communicate their number to EU customs authorities for customs operations. Before ordering, ask your broker to check your registration details and agree who will be named as importer.

Give your product adviser the specification, materials and intended use before approving production. Ask them to identify the applicable conformity evidence, labels and instructions, then put those requirements into the factory brief. Our Germany guide covers the shared EU product-conformity groundwork.

Name the seaport or border point in your quote

Austria is landlocked. We can source through our UK company and quote to the seaport or border point you name. Specify the exact freight destination and agree the onward leg into Austria separately. Ask the quote to identify the delivery term, freight, insurance, destination handling and where responsibility passes to you.

Have your broker and forwarder agree where clearance will take place before booking transport. Buying from China outside the UK explains the overseas buying arrangement, while our Switzerland guide offers a landlocked delivery comparison. The buy-through-UK-company service explains our commercial role.

Give your own broker the arrival work

Appoint your own customs broker before shipment. Ask them to review the commodity classification, origin, customs value, duties, import VAT and any product-specific permits. Send the proposed route and draft transaction documents so they can flag missing information before loading.

Agree an arrival scope covering preparation and submission of the customs declaration, customs queries, coordination of any examination and release with the carrier. Ask the broker to explain any transit arrangements needed between the named arrival point and Austria. Your own customs broker confirms the final entry.

Agree the document pack before dispatch

The Chinese factory supplies product descriptions, packing details and available test reports. We coordinate the commercial invoice with the agreed seller and prepare the packing list from the factory's final packing data. Where your broker requests a certificate of origin, we coordinate obtaining it from the exporter and agree its form and issuer before shipment.

For a UK seller shipping directly from China, send your broker the proposed invoice chain for review. Match descriptions, quantities, carton counts and weights across the documents. Check that test reports identify the actual model and configuration. We assemble the agreed shipping documents and inspection findings for your review before release.

Check the supplier and inspect the finished goods

Our own staff in China check the supplier's identity, manufacturing site and capability for your order. We compare the supplier, invoice issuer and payment recipient, establish who will manufacture the goods, and agree a written specification and approved sample. Send your adviser's approved label artwork and document checklist to the factory before production.

Before shipment, inspect workmanship, dimensions, function, packaging and agreed labels against the approved specification. Record defects and corrections, then send the findings for your release decision. Keep inspection findings separate from laboratory evidence. For pricing, factory audits and inspections are usually included in the quote; complex checks that need a third party are charged separately and agreed in advance.
