Start with Dominican importer registration

Importer registration is the starting gate for this buying plan. Asked how to register as an importer, the Dirección General de Aduanas directs applicants to General Services and the Importer / Exporter Registration service. Before paying a Chinese factory, ask your own Dominican customs broker to check your registration and confirm whose name will appear as importer.

Send the broker the product description, materials, intended use and model details. Request a written checklist covering any applicable permits, product registration, testing and labelling. Have the broker identify what needs resolving before production or shipment, then pass that checklist to our staff in China.

Agree a price to your own Dominican port

Give us your destination port, specification, quantity and packing brief. We can quote to your own Dominican port through our UK-based company. Ask the quotation to identify the delivery term, freight, insurance arrangements and destination charges left for you. Keep clearance, local handling and onward delivery visible when comparing offers.

Use our overseas buying guide for the wider procurement process and buying through a UK company to frame the purchasing arrangement. Agree who sells to you, who issues the commercial invoice and who coordinates the exporter before placing the order.

Build a document pack your broker can use

We coordinate the commercial invoice and packing list with the Chinese factory and the agreed seller. Ask your broker to review draft importer details, product descriptions, quantities, values and delivery terms. The Dominican customs import-declaration manual includes commercial invoices and certificates of origin among supporting documents. Reconcile the packing list with actual cartons and weights.

Where your broker requests a certificate of origin, we arrange it with the exporter. We obtain available factory test reports or coordinate agreed testing, checking that the evidence identifies the model and materials being ordered. Agree label artwork before printing. Have the carrier's transport document checked against the completed commercial documents before dispatch.

Check the factory, then inspect the finished order

Our own staff in China check the supplier's identity, production location and ability to make your specification. We review relevant equipment, processes and sample results, and ask which operations will be subcontracted. Keep the approved sample, specification and agreed changes together so the production team and inspector work from the same brief.

Before shipment, we inspect the finished goods against that brief, including agreed checks of function, finish, quantities, packaging and labels. Record defects, corrective work and your release decision. Treat inspection findings and laboratory reports as separate evidence. Ask your broker to confirm whether the completed product documents satisfy the Dominican requirements they identified.

Your own broker confirms the final entry

Arrange for your Dominican customs broker to confirm the final entry, classification and valuation, prepare the declaration, calculate local duties and taxes, and coordinate clearance and release. Ask them to flag any action needed before arrival. Send the completed document pack for review before we book shipment.

If you also buy for neighbouring markets, use the Colombia guide and Mexico guide for those destinations. Obtain a separate Dominican checklist for this order. Start your enquiry with the product brief, destination port and your broker's document requirements.
