Importing from China to St Kitts and Nevis

Start by checking whether your goods need an import licence or permit: the Customs Act requires it to be produced for restricted goods. Have your own broker confirm the requirements and final entry before shipment. For factory sourcing, inspection and a quote to your Saint Kitts and Nevis port, contact Cambridge China Bridge.

Start with the restricted-goods licence check

The Customs Act says Customs must refuse entry of restricted goods unless they are imported under a licence or permit and the importer produces it. Before ordering, send your own customs broker the product description, materials, intended use and model details. Ask them to confirm whether restrictions apply and what approval you need.

The government's published import procedures manual also says entries for goods other than foodstuff and household effects must be stamped by the Supply Officer before Customs lodgement. This is older guidance, so ask your broker to confirm the current stamping process alongside any licence, product certification or labelling requirements before we release the shipment.

Agree a quote to your own port

Give us your product specification, quantity, packing requirements and destination port in Saint Kitts and Nevis. We can quote through our UK company to your own port. Ask the quotation to identify the delivery term, freight, insurance arrangements and destination charges you will pay separately.

Use our overseas buying guide for the wider service and buying through a UK company for the purchasing arrangement. If you also supply those markets, keep the Colombia checklist and Mexico checklist separate from your Saint Kitts and Nevis broker's instructions.

Prepare the factory and shipment documents

We coordinate the commercial invoice and packing list with the Chinese factory and exporter, reflecting the agreed selling arrangement. Ask your broker to review draft seller and importer details, product descriptions, quantities, values and delivery terms. Match the packing list to the actual cartons, weights and shipping marks.

If your broker requests a certificate of origin, we arrange it with the exporter. We obtain available factory test reports or coordinate agreed testing, checking that the evidence identifies the model, materials and configuration ordered. Have your broker confirm acceptable documents and report scope before approving production and label artwork.

Check the supplier and inspect before shipment

Our own staff in China check the supplier's identity, production site and ability to make your specification. We establish where production will take place, review relevant equipment and processes, and ask about subcontracting. Agree an approved sample and written specification before production starts.

Before shipment, we inspect the finished order against that sample and specification. Agree checks for function, finish, dimensions, quantities, packaging and labels. Record defects, corrections and your shipment release decision. Keep laboratory testing and the broker's document review as separate tasks so that an inspection result is not treated as the whole approval.

Arrange arrival clearance with your own broker

Agree with your own customs broker that they will confirm the final entry, classification and valuation, prepare the declaration, calculate local duties and taxes, and coordinate clearance and release. Send them the completed invoice, packing list, carrier's transport document and requested origin or product evidence before the goods arrive.

Ask the broker to identify outstanding approvals or documents before we book shipment. Budget separately for destination handling, storage and onward delivery where these sit outside the quotation. Send Cambridge China Bridge your product brief, destination port and broker's checklist so the China work follows your local clearance plan.
