Check the import licence list before ordering

Saint Lucia's Ministry of Commerce points buyers to the External Trade (Restricted Imports) Order for the classes of goods requiring an import licence. Start with that product-specific check. Send your own Saint Lucia customs broker the proposed goods' description, materials, intended use and model details, and ask them to confirm whether your order falls within the list.

Ask the broker to identify any licence, product certification, test evidence or labelling needed for your particular goods. Obtain a written checklist before approving production, and agree who will obtain each document. Give us that checklist so the factory's specification and document commitments reflect what your broker has confirmed.

Agree a price to your own Saint Lucia port

Tell us your destination port, product specification, quantity and packing requirements. We can quote to your own Saint Lucia port through our UK-based company. Ask the quotation to state the delivery term, freight and insurance arrangements, and which arrival charges you will pay separately. Keep clearance, local charges and onward delivery visible when comparing offers.

Use our overseas buying guide for the wider purchasing process and buying through a UK company for the commercial arrangement. If your business also buys for Colombia or Mexico, use the separate Colombia guide and Mexico guide, with a broker's checklist for each destination.

Agree the factory's documents before shipment

We coordinate the commercial invoice and packing list with the Chinese factory and the agreed selling arrangement. Ask your broker to review drafts showing the seller, importer, product descriptions, quantities, values and delivery term. Match the packing list to the actual cartons, weights and shipping marks, and coordinate the carrier's transport document with the freight forwarder.

Where your broker requests a certificate of origin, we arrange it with the exporter. We obtain the factory's relevant test reports or coordinate agreed testing. Ask the broker to confirm the acceptable issuer and scope before commissioning work. Match every report to the ordered model, materials and configuration, and obtain approval of label artwork before printing.

Check the supplier and inspect the finished order

Our own staff in China check the supplier's identity, actual production site and capability against your specification. We establish whether the proposed supplier makes the goods itself, review relevant equipment and processes, and ask about subcontracting. Keep the approved sample, written specification and agreed production changes together so inspection has a clear reference.

Before shipment, we inspect the finished order against the agreed sample and specification. Agree checks for function, finish, dimensions, quantities, packaging and labels, then record defects and corrections before your release decision. Keep the inspection report separate from laboratory test reports and the broker's import checklist: each answers a different question.

Your own broker handles the arrival

Arrange for your own Saint Lucia customs broker to confirm the final entry, classification and valuation, prepare the declaration, calculate applicable duties and taxes, and coordinate clearance and release. Ask them to identify anything needed before arrival. Send the completed document pack for review before we book shipment, and resolve missing information while the factory can still correct it.

Agree who will respond to Customs questions, coordinate any examination, collect the released goods and arrange onward delivery. Keep the broker's contact details with the shipment records. To start the China work, send Cambridge China Bridge your product brief, destination port and broker's checklist, together with the sample and inspection requirements you want included.
