Start with the import licence

Nauru's published proclamation states that no business shall import goods without an approved import licence issued by the Nauru Customs Division of the Department of Finance. The Department of Justice says applications are initially received by Nauru Customs Service, then submitted to Justice for determination.

Before paying a factory deposit, ask your own broker to confirm who will import the goods, whether their approval covers the proposed purchase and what application work remains. Send the product description and proposed seller details. The overseas buying guide explains the wider sourcing arrangement.

Agree a quote to your own Nauru port

We can quote through our UK company to your named receiving port in Nauru. Specify the goods, packing dimensions, weight and delivery scope. Ask the quote to identify the delivery term, freight, insurance arrangements and included destination handling. Our buy-through-UK-company service explains the purchasing route.

Ask the forwarder to name any connections and destination agent. If your purchase also involves entry into Australia or New Zealand, use the separate Australia guide or New Zealand guide for that entry. Have the forwarder explain the arrangements for any transit movement.

Give your own broker the arrival work

Appoint your own Nauru customs broker before shipment. Agree that they will review the licence, prepare the arrival declaration, confirm classification and valuation, coordinate applicable payments and follow the clearance through to release. Your own customs broker confirms the final entry and amounts.

Give the broker the exact product, materials, intended use and proposed packaging before production. Ask them to identify any product-specific permits, certification or labelling work for this order. Budget separately for charges excluded from the port quote, including brokerage, arrival handling and onward delivery.

Agree the document pack before production

The Chinese factory supplies packing details and available test reports for the offered product. We check these against the order and coordinate the commercial invoice and packing list. Agree the invoicing seller with your broker at the outset, particularly when purchasing through our UK company.

Ask your broker whether a certificate of origin is needed; we arrange it with the exporter where requested. Match product descriptions, models, quantities, carton references and weights across the documents. Send reports for the exact model and configuration for review, and resolve missing evidence before approving production or dispatch.

Check the supplier and inspect before shipment

Our own staff in China check the supplier's identity, production site and ability to make your specification. Agree the materials, approved sample, packaging and acceptance criteria before production. Include your broker's written instructions in the factory brief so document and packing checks address the same shipment.

Before shipment, inspect the actual batch against that brief. Check workmanship, agreed functions, quantities, carton markings and packing condition. Request photographs and recorded defects, reconcile the inspected goods with the packing list, and agree corrective work before authorising dispatch. Keep the inspection record with the shipping documents.
