Importing from China to Latvia: EORI registration
Start by checking your importing company's EORI number, which EU guidance says economic operators must give to customs. Agree product checks before ordering and appoint your own Latvian broker for arrival clearance. Sourcing in China and quotations to your Latvian port are handled by Cambridge China Bridge.
Buying from China for a business? How our UK China sourcing agent service works · China sourcing agent for businesses outside the UK

Start with the importing company's EORI
For a business buying from China to Latvia, start with customs identification. European Commission guidance says economic operators must communicate their EORI number to customs authorities for customs operations. Ask your own Latvian customs broker to check the importing company's number before you commit to shipment.
Give the broker the intended importer, product description, materials, use and arrival port. Ask them to identify gaps before ordering. If you also plan deliveries to other destinations, use the Poland guide and Norway guide to prepare separate destination briefs.
Agree a quote to your Latvian port
You can buy through our UK-based company while the goods travel directly from China to your named Latvian port. Our overseas buying guide explains the general sourcing arrangement. For your quotation, specify the port and delivery term, then ask which freight, insurance and destination charges are included.
Agree whether we act as your sourcing agent or sell the goods to you, and identify the seller and importer in the order file. Our buy-through-UK-company service explains that purchasing arrangement. Keep broker charges, port handling and onward delivery visible when comparing the port quote with your total purchasing budget.
Turn product requirements into a factory brief
EU guidance says importers must ensure that imported products conform to EU law. Before approving production, ask your product compliance adviser to identify the requirements for the exact goods intended for Latvia. Request a written checklist covering applicable testing, declarations, markings, labels and instructions.
Give us that checklist before sample approval or packaging printing. Ask the factory for reports identifying the ordered model, materials and configuration. Match the evidence to the approved sample and specification, and agree how missing evidence will be obtained. Have your adviser confirm label wording and language before artwork is released.
Prepare the documents and arrival handover
The seller named in your purchasing arrangement provides the commercial invoice. The Chinese factory supplies packing details, and we coordinate the packing list and cross-check it against the invoice and order. Compare product descriptions, quantities, carton contents, weights, dimensions and the delivery term before dispatch.
Ask your broker whether a certificate of origin is needed for the entry; we coordinate obtaining it from the China side when requested. The factory supplies available test reports, and we gather and check the agreed reports against your product brief. Send the document drafts to your broker alongside the proposed transport details.
Appoint your own Latvian customs broker to handle the arrival declaration, review classification, customs value and origin, confirm applicable duty and import VAT, and answer customs queries. Your own customs broker confirms the final entry. Agree who receives release instructions and arranges port collection and onward delivery.

Check the supplier and inspect before shipment
Our own staff in China check the supplier's identity, production site, relevant equipment and ability to make your specification. We compare the supplier, invoice and payment details, investigate mismatches and ask about subcontracting. Keep the agreed production site, approved sample and written specification together in the order file.
Before shipment, we inspect workmanship, dimensions, function, quantity, packaging and the approved label artwork against the agreed brief. We record defects and corrections for your shipment release decision. Keep inspection findings alongside laboratory reports and compliance documents: a visual inspection cannot establish every property assessed by laboratory testing.
