Start with the importing business's EORI registration

Slovakia's Financial Administration states that businesses established in the Union's customs territory should be registered in the Member State where they are established. EU guidance says economic operators must communicate their EORI number to customs authorities for customs operations. For a Slovakia-established business, ask your broker to check its Slovak registration before ordering.

Give the broker your product description, materials, intended use and proposed route. Agree which business will be the importer and whose details belong on the documents. Our overseas buying guide covers the wider sourcing arrangement; this guide adds the Slovak registration and inland handover.

Name the seaport or border point in the quote

Slovakia is landlocked. We quote to the seaport or border point you name, with the onward leg agreed separately. Ask the quotation to identify the delivery term, freight, insurance, destination handling and exact handover location. State who arranges collection, inland transport and unloading, and which charges remain payable by you.

Before selecting a route through Poland or Germany, compare our Poland guide and Germany guide. Ask your broker where clearance should take place and whether customs transit is appropriate. EU guidance says transit allows temporary suspension of import duties, taxes and commercial policy measures. Have the broker agree the procedure with the carrier before dispatch.

Agree product checks and the document pack

As explained in the linked Germany guide, importers must ensure their products conform to EU law; CE marking applies only where the relevant rules require it. Ask your compliance adviser to identify testing, declarations, labels and instruction-language requirements for your exact product before the factory starts production or prints packaging.

The factory supplies packing details and available test reports; the commercial invoice comes from the agreed seller. We coordinate and cross-check the commercial invoice and packing list, arrange a certificate of origin where your broker requests it, and gather the agreed test reports. Match reports to the actual model and materials. Ask your broker to review the draft pack before shipment.

Give your own broker the arrival work

Appoint your own customs broker to handle the agreed arrival declaration, review classification, origin and customs value, confirm duty and import VAT treatment, and answer customs queries. Your own customs broker confirms the final entry. Supply the transport document alongside the commercial invoice, packing list and any agreed origin or product evidence.

If the cargo arrives at a foreign seaport, agree who handles the port formalities and who coordinates the onward movement to Slovakia. Keep the buyer, seller and importer details consistent across the shipment file. Our buy-through-UK-company service explains the commercial arrangement; agree whether we act as sourcing agent or seller before finalising the invoice.

Check the supplier and inspect before release

Our own staff in China check supplier identity, the production site, relevant equipment and the ability to make your specification. Compare the supplier, invoice issuer and payment account, and investigate differences or proposed subcontracting. Keep the approved sample, written specification and agreed production site in the order file.

Before shipment, inspect workmanship, dimensions, function, quantities, packaging and approved labels against agreed acceptance criteria. Record defects and corrections, then obtain your release decision. Inspection does not replace laboratory evidence. For pricing, factory audits and inspections are usually included in the quote; complex checks that need a third party are charged separately and agreed in advance.
