Importing from China to Laos: Registration
Start with the Lao importer: the Lao Trade Portal says commercial importers should first be a company registered with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Have your broker check product permissions before ordering. Agree a quote to your named seaport or border point with Cambridge China Bridge.
Buying from China for a business? How our UK China sourcing agent service works · China sourcing agent for businesses outside the UK

Start with the registered Lao importer
The Lao Trade Portal puts company registration first for commercial imports, naming the Department of Enterprise Registration and Management, Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Before paying a factory deposit, identify the importing company and ask your Lao customs broker to confirm its registration position and any additional importer registration applicable to the goods.
The portal also says certain products need an import licence from the Department of Foreign Trade. Send your broker the product description, materials, intended use and model. Ask for a written checklist covering any licences, product registration, certification and labelling before approving production.
Name the seaport or border point in the quote
Laos is landlocked. Tell us the seaport or border point you want priced, together with the eventual delivery address in Laos. Agree the onward leg separately, including who books transport, pays handling charges and manages the handover between carriers.
If comparing routes through neighbouring countries, use our Vietnam guide and Thailand guide to frame questions for your forwarder. Ask for a route-specific transit plan. For the wider purchasing arrangement, see buying from China outside the UK.
Prepare the shipment documents in China
We coordinate the document pack with the factory and exporter: the commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and available product test reports. Agree who issues each document and send drafts to your broker before dispatch. Reconcile buyer and seller details, product descriptions, quantities, carton counts and weights.
Ask the broker to confirm the accepted origin certificate and test evidence for your goods and route. We check that reports identify the ordered model and construction, and flag missing or mismatched evidence. Agree any additional testing before production; keep the test reports and goods inspection report separately identified.
Check the supplier and inspect before shipment
Our staff in China check the supplier’s identity, production location, manufacturing capability and proposed payment beneficiary. We establish which work is done at the factory and which is subcontracted, then agree an identified sample, written specification and acceptance criteria with you.
Before shipment, we inspect against the agreed brief, covering workmanship, dimensions, function, quantities, packaging and approved label artwork as appropriate. We report findings for your shipment decision and agree how defects will be corrected. The buy-through-UK-company service explains the purchasing arrangement.

Give your broker the arrival work
Appoint your own Lao customs broker and agree its scope before booking transport. Ask it to check classification, valuation, origin evidence, applicable duties and taxes, permissions and the final entry. On arrival, it handles the agreed declaration, payment coordination, customs queries and release arrangements.
Send the broker the final document pack and transport details before arrival. Ask it to identify any missing evidence while we can still resolve it with the factory. Keep clearance, destination handling and onward delivery visible as separate quote items, with a named party responsible for each.
