Can I sell on Amazon UK without GTINs?
Yes, an approved GTIN exemption lets you create an Amazon listing without a GTIN. Check eligibility in your UK seller account before committing to printed packaging, and confirm FBA barcodes separately. Prepare physical samples and retain the approval evidence. Arrange factory samples and checks with Cambridge China Bridge.

Check the actual product before choosing exemption
A GTIN exemption removes the need to associate a GTIN when creating the product listing. Start by asking the factory whether the exact product already has an allocated identifier. Search Amazon’s catalogue for the actual brand, model and pack contents, rather than relying on a similar-looking item.
In your UK Seller Central account, check the proposed category and brand against the current exemption guidance. Record any existing identifier, mandatory identifier warning or eligibility refusal, and resolve it before ordering packaging. Check selling approval separately using our Amazon UK approval guide.
Settle the brand name before making evidence
Amazon says the brand name entered in the exemption application should exactly match the name on the product or packaging. Agree the spelling, capitalisation and spacing before the factory makes the application sample. For an unbranded launch, decide your longer-term branding approach using our generic products and later branding guide.
Amazon’s guidance requires permanent branding on the packaging or product for branded applications. Ask for a physical sample with the intended printed, sewn or engraved marking. Keep the approved name in the product specification and artwork brief so the factory cannot substitute its own brand or alter yours.
Prepare a physical product and packaging evidence pack
Commission clear photographs of the actual product and its proposed packaging from every side, with close-ups of the brand marking. Photograph them together and separately on a plain table. Include the packed contents and each component of a bundle. Amazon says application images must be unaltered, without mock-ups or digitally added brand names.
Keep the original photographs, sample reference, product description, pack contents and artwork revision together. Check the current application’s upload instructions before submitting. Commission a sample before approving batch printing; our printed retail packaging guide covers the wider proof approval process.
Confirm FBA barcodes as a separate decision
GTIN exemption does not settle warehouse labelling. Amazon requires an Amazon barcode on products that are not tracked using the manufacturer barcode. In the actual FBA listing and shipment workflow, confirm the required barcode, obtain the relevant FNSKU label file and agree who will apply it before the factory prints or dispatches goods.
For Amazon barcode labelling, Amazon says to cover other visible barcodes except serial number barcodes and Transparency authentication labels. Give the factory an annotated placement proof identifying those exceptions. Check the finished sellable pack, including any bag or wrap, and use our barcode validation guide for print and scanning checks.

Release batch printing only against an approval pack
Retain the exemption decision and compare its stated scope with the intended listing. Create the intended listing successfully before approving batch artwork. Keep selling approval, product safety evidence and fulfilment preparation as separate checks; confirm your product safety responsibilities as an importer or seller with the relevant UK enforcement authority.
Send the factory a release pack containing the accepted brand wording, listing reference, product and packaging photographs, approved artwork and confirmed fulfilment label file. Record who approved it and which changes need another review. Cambridge China Bridge’s staff in China can coordinate the physical samples and compare factory proofs with the buyer’s approved files.
