How to verify Chinese machine throughput
Specify throughput as acceptable output over an agreed elapsed trial period using your actual materials. Define quality limits, staffing, utilities, changeovers and stoppage accounting before testing, then retain output checks and the complete time log. China-based staff can help witness this work through Cambridge China Bridge.

Turn the headline speed into an acceptance condition
Write the required output unit and time basis into the purchase specification. Define where output is counted: after processing, inspection or packing. Calculate accepted output divided by the agreed elapsed time. Keep running speed separate from sustained production throughput so the factory cannot substitute a brief peak for the result you need.
State which products and material conditions the commitment covers. Require quality and throughput to pass together at the same settings. Our machinery sourcing guide covers the broader purchasing and compliance checks; this protocol adds the production evidence. For a rice-processing example, see Philippines rice mill quote checks.
Control the materials and define acceptable output
Send identified production material batches, with their specifications and storage or conditioning instructions. Include the variations you expect to process, such as thickness, moisture, viscosity, dimensions or surface finish. Agree which combinations need separate trials. Record batch identity and condition at receipt; any substitute needs your approval and limits what the trial proves.
Define measurable acceptance limits for the finished output, including relevant dimensions, fill, seal, finish or damage. Agree inspection methods, instruments, sampling across the run and who decides borderline results. Keep rejects and reworked output separate; do not count rework as fresh production. Use measurement system analysis where measurement disagreement could change the decision.
Agree the clock, changeovers and stoppage log
Define when timing starts and ends, how warm-up is recorded and which planned activities fall inside the acceptance window. For sustained throughput, include agreed routine replenishment, cleaning, adjustments and stoppages in elapsed time. Record every exclusion and its reason rather than silently stopping the clock. Report accepted output, rejects, rework and elapsed time together.
Trial representative product or material changeovers. Define changeover time from the last acceptable output of the outgoing job to stable acceptable output of the incoming job, including agreed cleaning, tooling and setting adjustments. Log each stop with its start, end, cause, action and operator involvement. Attribute material, utility and machine problems without deleting them from the record. For the cleaning brief, see our guide to specifying machine cleanability.
Run under sustained production conditions
Agree a trial duration and material quantity sufficient to expose heating, drift, wear, replenishment and recurring faults relevant to your process. Record the actual machine identity, tooling, software version, settings, staffing and utilities. Match your intended operating conditions and feeding and discharge arrangements. If the factory cannot reproduce them, record the limitation and the further verification needed.
Keep safeguards fitted and active throughout testing. HSE advises never removing safeguards even when they make the job more difficult. Do not accept a throughput result obtained by bypassing them. Check output throughout the run and after restarts, retaining labelled samples and continuous records rather than selected demonstration clips. Put this protocol into the factory acceptance test.

Make the result reviewable before shipment
Require a signed report containing the agreed protocol, actual conditions, raw counts, quality results, time log, deviations and unresolved faults. Compare each tested material and product against its own acceptance condition. A witnessed trial supports only the machine, materials and conditions recorded; it does not establish performance for untested combinations.
Agree the response to failure before ordering: correction, repeat testing, responsibility for trial materials and costs, and who authorises shipment. After changes, repeat the affected quality and sustained-throughput checks. Use a site acceptance test to verify performance with your installed utilities and connected equipment, with any factory-stage limitations carried into its protocol.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rely on the machine's advertised speed?
Use it as a starting point. Ask for acceptable output over an agreed elapsed period with your materials, staffing and utilities, including the routine losses specified in the trial.
What if the factory cannot test my material?
Record the substitute and the limits of the result. Agree how your actual material will be tested and which acceptance decisions remain open before authorising shipment.
Should changeovers count towards throughput?
Include the agreed changeover sequence when measuring production capacity across your product mix. Also report changeover time separately so a fast steady run cannot hide slow job changes.
How long should a machine throughput trial run?
Agree a duration that exposes the recurring losses and process drift relevant to your production. Provide enough material for sustained running, replenishment, changeovers and quality checks after restarts.
