Stone worktop transport and unloading

Before shipment, have the stone handling specialist accept the rack and unloading method, map each slab to its job, and confirm lifting access and temporary storage. Agree when damage and fit checks happen, and who releases pieces for installation. Coordinate factory records with Cambridge China Bridge.

Agree the delivery handover before shipment

Name the factory packing contact, haulier, receiving stone specialist and installer. Agree who supplies the racks and lifting equipment, who unloads, and who can stop delivery if the load or access differs from the plan. Send the receiving specialist the packing layout, piece dimensions, weights and photographs before booking transport.

The quartz worktop sourcing guide covers material, batch quality and fabrication information. This guide adds the handover from packed stone to inspected pieces ready for installation. Ask Cambridge China Bridge's staff in China to obtain the agreed packing and identification records before dispatch.

Get specialist acceptance of the actual rack

HSE guidance says rack storage should prevent slabs toppling or slipping out at the base. Ask a stone handling specialist to accept the proposed rack for the actual pieces and handling method in writing. Supply its drawings, stated capacity, base supports, restraint details and lifting instructions. Make this acceptance a shipment condition.

Ask how restraints will be managed as pieces are removed, how the remaining load stays stable, and whether the rack can be handled with the receiving equipment. Require approval of packing changes before loading. Use the container loading guide for loading records, with photographs showing the accepted rack arrangement.

Identify every slab and finished piece

Give each slab or finished worktop a durable identifier linked to its batch, approved drawing revision, destination room and intended position. Include dimensions, weight, finished face orientation and matching pieces in the packing list. Ask for labels that remain readable after unloading without marking the polished surface.

Link factory photographs to those identifiers and record which rack or crate holds each piece. Arrange packing around the agreed removal sequence so the receiver can find pieces without unnecessary reshuffling. Keep the identification record with the haulier, receiver and installer, and reconcile substitutions before dispatch.

Confirm lifting access and a holding area

Send the receiving specialist photographs and measurements of the vehicle approach, unloading position, ground conditions, overhead obstructions, doorways, turns and route to the installation area. Ask them to confirm suitable equipment, attachments, reach and capacity for the actual pieces. Agree a supported holding area if inspection or installation is delayed.

HSE says nobody should enter the zone into which a slab could fall while it is handled. Have the specialist define that zone and the working sequence, including the driver's waiting position. Use the container delivery premises checklist for general access planning. If access or load condition differs on arrival, stop and obtain a revised handling plan.

Agree inspection stages and installation release

Start with photographs of the arriving packaging, rack and visible damage from a safe position before restraints are changed. Let the specialist control unloading and opening. Once each piece is safely supported and accessible, match its identifier to the packing list and record chips, cracks, surface damage and missing pieces. Agree these checks using the quality inspection guide.

Before installation, check pieces against the approved drawings and actual site: dimensions, cut-outs, edges, matching faces and supporting surfaces. Agree who records findings and authorises installation in writing. Keep receipt, condition inspection and installation release as separate records. Hold disputed pieces in the agreed supported area and notify the seller and carrier before cutting or fitting them.

Frequently asked questions

Who should approve a stone worktop transport rack?

Ask the receiving stone handling specialist to accept the actual rack, pieces and unloading method in writing before shipment. Send drawings, capacity details, support and restraint information.

What should the slab packing list include?

Include each piece's identifier, batch, drawing revision, dimensions, weight, room and position, plus its rack or crate location. Link photographs to the same identifiers.

Can worktops be inspected while unloading?

Record visible packaging damage from a safe position first. Let the specialist control handling, then inspect each piece when safely supported and accessible. Keep observers outside the slab fall zone.

When should I approve worktops for installation?

After identifiers, condition, drawings, matching pieces and site fit have been checked. Name the person who can release pieces in writing, and hold damaged or disputed pieces before cutting or fitting.
