Weight benches and power racks: candidate duty of 2%
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 5 December 2026, heading 9506 covers sports and general exercise equipment. Other exercise equipment under 9506 91 90 00 is the candidate line for ordinary weight benches and power racks. The table shows product variants sharing that code. An adjustable bench angle does not itself establish an adjustable resistance mechanism; assess racks with integrated resistance equipment separately.
The candidate line carries 2% duty for goods from China, with no recorded anti-dumping or countervailing duty or suspension. It attaches cat and dog fur import and export controls: such fur and products made from it are banned. Specify upholstery without these materials. A cultural-goods export licence measure is also attached; ask your customs broker to confirm its relevance before any onward export.
Confirm the commodity code using drawings, intended use and details of any resistance attachments. For another product family within this heading, see dumbbells.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |

Specify load ratings, adjustment locks and rack anchoring
State home or commercial gym use. For benches, specify frame sections, wall thickness, pad dimensions, upholstery, adjustment positions and locking method. Separate the user-weight rating from the combined user-and-barbell load. For racks, specify upright dimensions, hole spacing, bar-hook fit, safety catches, footprint and anchoring arrangement.
Consumer equipment supplied in Great Britain must be safe, including equipment made available to gym customers. Request safety evidence matching the actual frame, bench adjustment and rack accessories. Agree load and stability testing with a testing adviser, including uneven loading and the intended safety-catch function.
Approve an assembled sample and clear assembly, anchoring, use and maintenance instructions. Agree replacement pads, pins, hooks and fasteners against the same drawings. Keep the approved configuration tied to the delivered model and batch.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 24 flat weight benches under 9506 91 90 00, invoiced at £2,500 free on board, with £350 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £2,850. Duty at 2% is £57. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £2,907, so it is £581.40. Import taxes total £638.40; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £57 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Frame and welds: check tube dimensions, alignment, weld consistency, sharp edges and coating damage against the approved sample; assemble the equipment and check rocking.
Bench adjustment: check pad support, hinge play, locking-pin engagement and backrest retention throughout the intended adjustment range.
Rack fittings: check bar hooks and safety catches fit the supplied uprights, retain securely and match the approved load-test configuration; verify the anchoring kit against the instructions.
Arrival and documents: inspect bent uprights, torn upholstery and missing fasteners; match instructions, model identification and test records to the shipment. Record findings through the inspection guide.

What goes wrong
A bench can look rigid while its adjustment pin only partly engages or its backrest support slips under load. Rack holes can be misaligned, leaving hooks uneven or safety catches difficult to insert. Poor packing can bend an upright or puncture a pad before assembly.
An unexplained maximum-load claim can conceal different assumptions about user weight, barbell weight or anchoring. Ask for the tested configuration and loading method. Prohibit unapproved changes to tube thickness, welds, pins and fasteners, and repeat assembly and retention checks on arrival.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For own-brand ranges, see sourcing for brands.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on weight benches and power racks from China?
The candidate line 9506 91 90 00 carries 2% duty in the supplied tariff record, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty or suspension. Confirm the finished product's classification.
Does an adjustable weight bench count as adjustable-resistance equipment?
Do not assume that changing the backrest angle establishes adjustable resistance. Give your broker the adjustment details and drawings; assess integrated resistance attachments separately.
What load rating should I ask a weight-bench factory to prove?
Ask for separate user-weight and combined user-and-barbell ratings, supported by testing of the ordered frame, adjustment locks and pad supports. Agree the loading method and intended use.
What should I check before accepting a power rack?
Assemble it, check upright alignment, hook and safety-catch retention, fasteners and the specified anchoring arrangement. Match the delivered configuration to the test evidence and instructions.
