0% duty where heading 9620 applies

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 2 October 2026, heading 9620 covers monopods, bipods, tripods and similar articles. Its camera-support line is 9620 00 10 00. All supplied lines carry 0% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspension listed. The table shows fluid-head configurations against the same candidate line, rather than separate tariff lines.

The supplied tariff record attaches a DCMS Export Licence entry to the camera-support line. Official guidance states that there are no licensing requirements for importing objects of cultural interest into Great Britain. Ask your customs broker to confirm how the attached entry and its document waiver apply to your shipment.

For a separately supplied head, send photographs, mounting details and a description of its function to your broker and confirm the commodity code before using this duty rate. For complete supports, see tripods and monopods.

Specify drag, counterbalance and mounting

Specify the base mounting, bowl fit where applicable, camera screw and tripod thread, sliding plate travel, plate retention and pan-bar attachment. Identify the camera, lens and accessories used for acceptance testing. Agree a working-load claim with the rig's centre of gravity stated, rather than accepting a load figure alone.

Specify fixed or adjustable pan and tilt drag, the counterbalance adjustment, tilt travel and lock behaviour. Ask the factory to identify the damping mechanism and agree a sample demonstration of slow starts, stops and reversals. Heads sold for consumer use in Great Britain must be safe in normal or reasonably foreseeable use.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 50 video fluid heads, illustrative only, assuming classification is confirmed under 9620 00 10 00, invoiced at £2,500 free on board, with £590 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £3,090. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £3,090, so it is £618. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Movement: pan and tilt slowly with the agreed camera rig, checking starting resistance, judder, backlash and rebound after stopping.

Balance and locks: balance the rig on the sliding plate, check counterbalance through the agreed tilt travel, and inspect for creep with the locks engaged.

Mounting and retention: fit the head to the intended tripod, check thread engagement and plate security, and test the release catch against accidental operation.

Condition and contents: check for damping-fluid leakage, damaged castings, loose pan bars and missing plates or adaptors. Repeat movement checks on arrival and compare with the approved sample.

What goes wrong

A head can hold the stated weight yet give poor footage because the camera rig sits outside its useful balance range. Watch for stiff starts, uneven drag, rebound and tilt creep. A plate that fits loosely or a base that does not match the tripod can make an otherwise usable head unsuitable.

Do not approve a batch from an unloaded demonstration. Test with the agreed rig, compare movement with the approved sample and record any leakage or lock movement. Use a written acceptance brief for quality inspection.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on video fluid heads from China?

The supplied heading 9620 lines carry 0% duty from China, with no trade remedy listed. Confirm that your separately supplied fluid head belongs in this heading before applying that rate.

Is the load rating enough to choose a video fluid head?

No. Specify the complete camera rig and its centre of gravity, then test counterbalance, smooth movement and lock holding with that rig.

Will a fluid head fit any video tripod?

Check the base mounting, bowl fit, thread and clearance. Fit the sample to the intended tripod and check the quick-release plate with the actual camera.

How do I check whether the fluid damping works?

Test slow pans and tilts under the agreed load. Look for stiff starts, judder, uneven resistance and rebound. Ask the factory to identify the damping mechanism and compare production samples with the approved head.
