Sourcing vehicle FM radio aerials from China
Vehicle FM radio aerials from China carry 0% UK duty across the selected aerial lines. Consumer replacement products supplied in Great Britain must be safe. Confirm construction, vehicle fit and whether the aerial has a powered amplifier before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources vehicle FM radio aerials.

Duty on vehicle FM radio aerials
Heading 8529 covers parts suitable solely or principally for apparatus of headings 8524 to 8528, including aerials. Vehicle telescopic and whip-type aerials have a specific line, 8529 10 11 00. The other rows cover alternative aerial constructions; they are not interchangeable classifications. See the wider aerials and display parts guide for the rest of the heading.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, all selected aerial lines carry 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied snapshot records no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, tariff suspension or attached import control for these lines. Import VAT is separate from customs duty; see UK import duty and VAT.
Confirm the commodity code using photographs, construction details and the intended radio application. State whether the shipment contains a replacement mast, a complete aerial with base and cable, or an amplified assembly. Do not select an outside-aerial code merely because a vehicle whip aerial is mounted outside.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Telescopic and whip-type aerials for motor-vehicle radios | 8529 10 11 00 | 0% | None |
| Outside aerials for radio broadcast receivers | 8529 10 30 00 | 0% | None |
| Other inside aerials for radio receivers, including built-in types | 8529 10 65 90 | 0% | None |
| Other aerials | 8529 10 69 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the mast, base and vehicle connection
Define the vehicle applications and whether you need a mast alone or a complete assembly. Agree mast length, mounting thread, roof opening, base shape, gasket, cable length and connector. For adhesive windscreen aerials, specify the installation position and earth connection. Identify powered amplifiers and how they receive their supply.
Ask for measured reception and gain evidence across the intended FM band, then compare samples on the intended vehicle and radio. Approve a physical sample with installation photographs. A shark-fin housing should have its internal aerial function stated clearly; appearance alone does not establish radio compatibility.
Consumer replacement products supplied in Great Britain must be safe. Include secure attachment, cable routing and installation information in the sample review. For amplified assemblies, ask testing and certification support to establish which rules apply to the exact product before agreeing its marking.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: 600 vehicle FM whip aerials; illustrative order, FOB value and freight under 8529 10 11 00, invoiced at £1,800 free on board, with £600 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £2,400. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £2,400, so it is £480. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Fit: check threads, base dimensions, mounting hardware and connectors against the approved sample and intended vehicle.
Reception: compare bulk samples with the approved aerial using the same radio, vehicle and test locations; investigate weak reception and amplifier noise.
Sealing: check gasket seating, base adhesion and cable entry, then perform the agreed water test and inspect for ingress.
Packing: check mast straightness, connector protection, supplied fittings and application labels during quality inspection.

What goes wrong
An aerial can screw into the base yet receive poorly because its internal construction differs from the approved sample. Connector adapters can also conceal an incompatible amplifier supply or earth arrangement. Check reception after installation rather than accepting a visual fit check alone.
Poorly seated gaskets let water through the roof mounting, while weak threads loosen and exposed connector joints corrode. Windscreen aerials can lose reception when installed without the agreed earth connection. Record the failed sample and installation conditions, and agree the correction before releasing the batch.
