Sourcing satellite dish LNBs from China

The supplied heading 8529 lines carry 0% UK duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. Confirm the classification of the exact LNB; models sold as radio equipment must meet essential requirements before sale in Great Britain. Cambridge China Bridge sources satellite dish LNBs.

Duty and classification for satellite dish LNBs

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 October 2026, all supplied heading 8529 lines carry 0% duty for goods from China. The heading covers parts for the specified receiving and display apparatus. The supplied data records no anti-dumping or countervailing measures and no attached import controls.

The table lists potential lines for LNBs and associated components, not interchangeable classifications for a finished LNB. The other-parts lines have conditional autonomous suspensions at 0.00 %, although their ordinary duty is already 0%. Their footnotes restrict eligible apparatus and exclude mixtures, preparations or products containing the named products.

Give your customs broker the circuit description, receiving function, intended apparatus and details of whether the shipment contains finished LNBs or components. Confirm the commodity code before ordering. See the wider antennas and display parts guide for the rest of this heading.

Specify the LNB and receiver together

Specify the input band, output band, local oscillator frequencies, polarisation switching, receiver control method and power supply. Identify whether outputs are independently switched or dedicated to particular bands and polarisations. Agree the feed geometry, mounting neck, connector type and weather cover against the dish and receiver you actually use.

Ask for measured noise, gain and oscillator stability results across the intended operating conditions. Test the approved sample with the target receiver and distribution equipment. Request RoHS compliance evidence for the electrical parts supplied.

For models supplied as radio equipment, the importer must not place them on the Great Britain market unless they conform with the essential requirements. Confirm the compliance treatment of the finished model rather than relying on a supplier's description of it as a spare part. Use testing and certification support to define the evidence to request.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 10,000 electronic assemblies for satellite dish LNBs under 8529 90 30 00, invoiced at £30,000 free on board, with £1,800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £31,800. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £31,800, so it is £6,360. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Reception: check receiver lock, signal quality and switching throughout the agreed input bands, using bulk samples and the approved receiver setup.

Outputs: test each connector and confirm that independent outputs remain independent when connected receivers request different settings.

Stability: compare oscillator behaviour and reception after warm-up and across the agreed temperature conditions.

Sealing and fit: check feed covers, housing joints, connector protection and mounting fit; repeat reception checks after the agreed water exposure test. Record results at inspection.

What goes wrong

A housing can look correct while the output arrangement is incompatible with the receiver or distribution system. Confusing independently switched outputs with dedicated band and polarisation outputs can leave parts of the channel range unavailable. Lock the internal configuration and model identification into the purchase specification.

Oscillator drift, inconsistent noise performance and water entering around connectors can cause intermittent reception. A brief indoor demonstration may miss these faults. Compare bulk samples with the approved sample after warm-up and the agreed environmental checks, and inspect protective packing for cracked feed covers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on satellite dish LNBs from China?

The supplied heading 8529 lines carry 0% duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. Confirm which line covers the exact LNB or component.

Can I use the same LNB with any satellite receiver?

Do not assume compatibility. Match the input and output bands, oscillator settings, switching method, power supply and output arrangement to the target receiver.

What should I test before accepting a shipment of LNBs?

Check reception, switching, every output, oscillator stability, mounting fit and weather sealing against an approved sample and the intended receiver setup.

Does calling an LNB a spare part remove compliance obligations?

Do not rely on that description. For a model supplied as radio equipment, the importer must ensure it meets essential requirements before placing it on the Great Britain market.
