Sourcing television tuner modules from China
Television tuner modules classified as electronic assemblies under heading 8529 carry 0% UK duty from China. Confirm the classification and assess whether the module is a component for further manufacture or a finished radio product requiring its own conformity assessment. Cambridge China Bridge sources television tuner modules.

Duty on television tuner assemblies
Heading 8529 covers parts suitable solely or principally for apparatus of headings 8524 to 8528. Electronic assemblies are listed under 8529 90 30 00. The table shows tuner variants sharing that line, subject to confirmation from the actual construction and function. Complete receivers need separate classification.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 October 2026, all supplied lines carried 0% duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measures or attached import controls recorded. The other-parts lines 8529 90 93 00 and 8529 90 96 00 also record conditional 0.00 % suspensions for specified apparatus; these are not blanket tuner-module concessions.
Confirm the commodity code using the datasheet, assembly drawings and intended host equipment. For the wider parts context, see television replacement mainboards.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Terrestrial television tuner electronic assemblies | 8529 90 30 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the tuner and its host board
Specify the broadcast system, reception bands, tuner chipset, supply requirements, control interface and signal output. Match the host-board part number and firmware revision, connector orientation, pin assignment, shielding can and mounting points. State whether modules are new, refurbished or removed from equipment. Approve a sample operating in the intended television.
For Great Britain, assess how the module is supplied. Components sold separately can require individual conformity assessment and marking. For imports undergoing further manufacture, the finished-product manufacturer is responsible for compliance before placing the finished product on the market. Electrical and electronic equipment, including cables and spare parts, falls within the hazardous-substance restrictions unless specifically excluded.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative mixed-model batch of television tuner modules for repair stock under 8529 90 30 00, invoiced at £30,000 free on board, with £1,800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £31,800. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £31,800, so it is £6,360. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Identity: match chipset markings, module revision, connectors and pin assignment to the approved sample and host-board records.
Reception: test channel scanning and stable picture and sound using controlled signals across the agreed bands, including weak-signal conditions.
Construction: inspect solder joints, shield attachment, connector alignment and signs of rework, corrosion or previous removal.
Packing: check static-shielding protection, separated connectors and batch identification. Use the agreed functional checks at inspection.

What goes wrong
A tuner can fit physically yet fail because the host firmware cannot control its chipset or expects a different signal output. Testing only with a strong local signal can conceal poor sensitivity or interference problems. Compare bulk samples with the approved module in the intended host.
Mixed revisions and undisclosed removed parts make repairs inconsistent. Record the module revision and batch on receipt, segregate substitutions and agree approval before the factory changes the chipset or board layout.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For components and parts, see sourcing for manufacturers.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on television tuner modules from China?
Electronic assemblies classified under 8529 90 30 00 carry 0% duty in the supplied tariff snapshot, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measures recorded. Confirm the code for the actual module.
Does every tuner module need its own conformity marking?
Assess how it is supplied. Separately marketed components can require individual assessment and marking; modules imported for further manufacture need the finished-product compliance route checked.
Will a tuner with the same connector work in my television?
The connector alone does not establish compatibility. Match the chipset, pin assignment, supply requirements, control interface, output and host firmware, then test an approved sample.
How should I check refurbished tuner modules?
Agree their condition in writing, inspect for rework and corrosion, record revisions and test reception in the intended host. Keep refurbished and new stock identifiable.
