Fibre labelling
Article 2 of the retained textile fibre names regulation treats umbrella and sunshade coverings containing at least 80% textile components by weight as textile products. That means the canopy fibre, usually polyester or pongee, must be stated with a permitted fibre name on a label or marking.
Frame, wind and print
Specify rib material and count (fibreglass ribs flex rather than snap), shaft, canopy fabric weight, water repellency and UV rating for parasols. Ask for a wind tunnel or fan test and an opening-closing cycle test. For printed promotional umbrellas, approve print position on every panel with a pre-production sample.
Children's umbrellas need rounded tips, pinch-free runners and reflective trims.
Inspection
At inspection, open and close samples, check rib joints, tips, runner springs and print, and spray-test for leaks.
