Sourcing trichloroisocyanuric acid from China

For TCCA classified within heading 2933, the relevant residual line has 6% UK duty from China, with no TCCA suspension shown. For disinfectant supply in Great Britain, check the active substance status and supplier listing before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources trichloroisocyanuric acid.

TCCA duty and classification

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, heading 2933 covers heterocyclic compounds with nitrogen hetero-atoms only. The supplied extract does not name TCCA separately. Its residual triazine line, 2933 69 80 90, carries 6% duty from China. The table describes purchase forms against this candidate code, rather than separate tariff subheadings. Confirm classification before using that rate, especially for products presented for sale as disinfectants.

No anti-dumping or countervailing duty is recorded for this line. Its 0.00 % suspension names a different substance and does not establish relief for TCCA. The tariff attaches dangerous chemical export controls and waste export controls. Ask your customs broker to confirm their relevance and any documentary requirements for your transaction from China, including a possible return shipment.

Give your broker the complete chemical identity, composition, additives, intended use and packing presentation. Use the commodity code guide to confirm classification. The cyanuric chloride guide discusses another product within the wider heading; cyanuric chloride is not a substitute description for TCCA.

Specify TCCA identity, available chlorine and form

Specify trichloroisocyanuric acid by its full chemical identity. State whether you need powder, granules or pressed material, and disclose any binders or other additives. Agree available chlorine, substance assay, moisture, insoluble matter and the analytical methods. For granules, agree the particle size distribution; for pressed material, agree dimensions, strength and dissolution behaviour in your intended equipment.

Obtain a batch certificate of analysis and a representative sample for independent testing. Available chlorine and substance assay should be reported separately. Confirm the actual manufacturing site and require approval before changes to composition or packing. Use testing and certification support to define the sampling and acceptance checks.

For supply as a disinfectant in Great Britain, establish the applicable biocide market route with HSE before ordering. Active substance status determines the steps needed to place the product on the market. Check the active substance supplier against the relevant supplier list and repeat that check before subsequent purchases.

Confirm with HSE the UK REACH registration position for your annual substance imports, including whether coverage through the manufacturer's UK-based only representative is applicable. Confirm the applicable safety data sheet and classification labelling requirements for hazardous substances with HSE. Agree packaging and transport arrangements against the supplied safety data sheet before dispatch.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 500 kg of bulk TCCA powder, subject to classification confirmation under 2933 69 80 90, invoiced at £2,500 free on board, with £500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £3,000. Duty at 6% is £180. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £3,180, so it is £636. Import taxes total £816; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £180 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity: match the full substance name, composition and batch references across the order, labels, safety data sheet and analysis certificate.

Analysis: verify available chlorine, assay, moisture and insoluble matter using the agreed methods; check that results belong to the delivered batch.

Physical form: compare granule size, dust and clumping with the approved sample; inspect pressed material for breakage and test agreed dissolution behaviour.

Packing and documents: check closures, seals, moisture damage and batch markings; reconcile hazard labels with the safety data sheet and retain the agreed supply-status documents.

What goes wrong

An order described only as pool chlorine can conceal a different substance or a blend. A satisfactory assay can coexist with unsuitable moisture, excessive fines or poor dissolution behaviour. Broken pressed material, clumped granules and certificates copied from another batch can leave the delivery outside the agreed specification.

Do not treat a supplier's chlorine-content claim or analysis certificate as confirmation of the biocide market route. Keep the chemical specification, supplier checks and batch evidence together. Hold material with damaged packing or inconsistent identity documents pending investigation, and reconfirm classification if additives or the selling presentation change.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on TCCA from China?

The candidate residual line 2933 69 80 90 carries 6% duty, with no TCCA suspension or trade remedy shown. Confirm the actual product's classification, particularly if presented for sale as a disinfectant.

Can I sell imported TCCA as a pool disinfectant?

Check the applicable biocide market route with HSE first. The active substance status determines the steps needed, and the active substance supplier should be checked against the relevant supplier list.

What should a TCCA analysis certificate show?

The substance and delivered batch, available chlorine, substance assay, moisture and insoluble matter, with results against the agreed specification and the methods used.

What should I specify for TCCA granules or tablets?

For granules, agree particle size, fines and clumping criteria. For pressed material, agree dimensions, strength and dissolution behaviour. Identify all additives and approve a representative sample.
