Sourcing textile sleep masks from China
Textile sleep masks from China carry 6% to 12% UK duty on the relevant heading 6307 lines, depending on construction. Fibre content must be labelled, and importers must demonstrate product safety before sale. Specify the lining, light blocking and strap fit before approving samples. Cambridge China Bridge sources textile sleep masks.

UK duty by textile construction
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 29 September 2026, heading 6307 covers other made-up textile articles. The selected candidate lines for sleep masks carry 12% for knitted or crocheted articles and 6% for felt and other constructions. Confirm classification from the complete mask, rather than the supplier's fabric description alone. For the wider product family, see promotional merchandise.
The selected lines show no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. The suspension attached to the other-construction lines is expressly for specified textile face masks; do not assume sleep masks qualify. CITES import and export controls are attached. If materials contain listed species, check the required permits with the British authority and the Chinese authority. The other-construction lines also attach torture-equipment import prohibitions and export restrictions; the official banned-goods list includes blindfolds solely designed for law enforcement.
Describe the sleep use, outer fabric, lining, filling and construction when confirming the commodity code. Ask your customs broker to confirm the attached controls against the actual materials and design, including any export restrictions if you later ship overseas.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Knitted or crocheted textile sleep masks | 6307 90 10 00 | 12% | None |
| Felt textile sleep masks | 6307 90 91 00 | 6% | None |
| Hand-made textile sleep masks, other construction | 6307 90 98 91 | 6% | None |
| Other textile sleep masks, including woven construction | 6307 90 98 99 | 6% | None |
Specify blackout, lining and strap fit
Specify the outer and skin-contact fabrics separately, with fibre composition, weave or knit, padding, finished shape, nose contour and strap adjustment. Satin describes a fabric construction; ask whether the fibre is silk or polyester. Approve a sample on different wearers, checking light leakage around the nose and whether the mask presses on the eyelids.
Agree washing instructions, colour-fastness checks, strap recovery and seam strength before production. The label must show fibre content. Importers must be able to demonstrate that the product meets applicable safety requirements before sale. Assess the finished mask, including detached adjusters, rough edges and strap behaviour, and keep the approved sample and supporting test records.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 6,000 woven textile sleep masks under 6307 90 98 99, invoiced at £9,000 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £9,800. Duty at 6% is £588. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £10,388, so it is £2,077.60. Import taxes total £2,665.60; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £588 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Blackout and fit: compare bulk samples with the approved mask under the same lighting, checking nose gaps, coverage and pressure on the eyes.
Straps and seams: stretch and release the elastic, cycle adjusters and pull strap attachments; check open stitching, exposed padding and rough binding.
Fabric and washing: check colour transfer to a damp pale cloth, then wash using the agreed instructions and compare shape, lining and strap recovery.
Labels and packing: compare fibre labels and artwork with the approved specification; check quantities, stains and damp packing across cartons. Agree these checks in the inspection brief.

What goes wrong
A dark outer fabric can still leak light through the lining or nose gap. Elastic can become loose after washing, seam allowances can rub against the face, and dark dyes can transfer to bedding. A padded mask may lose its shape when the filling shifts. Compare washed samples as well as new samples.
A supplier may describe polyester satin as silk or replace the agreed lining in bulk production. Record fibre composition and construction in the order, retain a reference sample and check bulk material against it. Keep the quotation and customs description specific to a sleep mask so protective-face-mask suspension wording is not mistaken for a duty concession.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on textile sleep masks from China?
The relevant heading 6307 lines carry 12% for knitted or crocheted articles and 6% for felt and other constructions in the supplied tariff reading. Confirm the complete mask's classification.
Do textile sleep masks need fibre labels?
Yes. The label must show fibre content. Confirm the actual fibres in the outer fabric and lining rather than treating satin as a fibre name.
Does the face-mask duty suspension cover sleep masks?
Do not assume it does. The supplied suspension wording covers specified textile face masks. Budget using the ordinary sleep-mask rate unless your customs broker confirms eligibility.
What should I check before ordering sleep masks?
Check nose-gap light leakage, eyelid pressure, lining feel, elastic recovery, strap seams and colour transfer. Wash the sample using the proposed instructions and compare it with an unwashed reference.
