Duty on stainless steel squat toilet pans

Heading 7324 covers sanitary ware and parts of iron or steel. Stainless steel squat toilet pans belong within the other sanitary ware family, rather than the sink or bath descriptions. The table shows alternative pan configurations against the same candidate commodity line, 7324 90 00 90.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, the supplied record shows 0% duty for goods from China on this line. It records no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, steel measure, suspension or attached import control. Import VAT is separate; see UK import duty and VAT.

Have your customs broker check the material, pan drawing and any separately supplied fittings before confirming the commodity code. For related sanitary ware within the heading, see the stainless steel urinals guide.

Specify the pan, footplates and flushing arrangement

Approve a dimensioned drawing showing the floor recess, flange, footplate positions, bowl depth, flushing inlet and outlet direction. State the stainless steel grade, finished thickness at formed areas, surface finish, welding treatment and whether the trap is integral or supplied separately. Agree how the installed pan is supported and how its flange meets the finished floor.

Test a sample with the intended cistern or flush valve and drainage connection. Check bowl wash, discharge, splashing, leakage and residual pooling. Have the installer settle water-supply fitting compliance before ordering: confirm with the local water company or Water Regs UK which quality, standard and suitability requirements apply to fittings on the supply.

Importers of consumer products are responsible for their safety. Ask for evidence addressing sharp edges, footplate grip and loading in the intended installation. Have a compliance adviser check construction-product standard coverage before accepting CE or UKCA paperwork. Products outside full designated-standard coverage may be covered by a technical assessment document; a seated-toilet report should not be accepted without checking its scope.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 20 stainless steel squat toilet pans; FOB and freight values are illustrative. under 7324 90 00 90, invoiced at £3,500 free on board, with £600 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £4,100. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £4,100, so it is £820. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Material and forming: verify the ordered steel grade using an analyser or laboratory test, measure finished thickness around the bowl and footplates, and check for cracks at drawn corners.

Fit and support: compare the recess, flange and outlet with the approved drawing, trial-fit the trap and connectors, and check that the supported pan does not rock or distort.

Flush and leakage: use the agreed flushing equipment to check bowl wash, discharge, splashing and pooling; inspect welded seams and connections for leaks.

Finish and arrival condition: check footplates and edges for burrs, welds for pinholes, and surfaces for scratches or dents. Record carton damage and compare delivery samples with the approved pan. See quality inspection.

What goes wrong

A pan can match the catalogue photograph yet fail installation because the outlet direction, trap position or flange depth differs from the drawing. Poorly matched flushing equipment leaves areas unwashed or throws water onto the floor. Thin footplates flex, rough grooves retain dirt, and poorly finished welds can leak or develop rust staining.

Approve an installed sample using the intended flushing and drainage components, then use that assembly as the inspection reference. Ask your local water company about unresolved water-fitting compliance questions. Keep the approved drawing, material evidence and inspection photographs with the order.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on stainless steel squat toilet pans from China?

The supplied tariff record shows 0% duty under 7324 90 00 90, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Confirm the code for the actual pan and any separately supplied fittings.

Can I use the factory's standard trap and flush valve?

Trial-fit them with the intended installation. Agree the outlet direction, trap position and flushing inlet, then test bowl wash, discharge, splashing and leakage before approving the assembly.

How do I check the stainless steel grade?

Write the grade into the order and verify production samples with an analyser or laboratory test. Measure thickness after forming, especially around the bowl corners and footplates.

Does a seated-toilet test report cover a squat pan?

Check the report's model, drawings and scope. Ask a compliance adviser to establish the applicable construction-product coverage; do not assume that seated-toilet results cover a different squat-pan design.
