Sourcing rubber two-roll mills from China

Rubber two-roll mills and relevant machinery parts from China carry 0% UK duty across the selected tariff lines. Machinery must be safe before it is placed on the Great Britain market or put into service. Agree roll performance and safety acceptance before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources rubber two-roll mills.

Zero duty, with classification by function

Heading 8477 covers machinery for working rubber or plastics and its parts. For a rubber mixing mill, start by checking the mixers and kneaders line, 8477 80 93 00. A mill supplied for another function needs its own classification review. The table shows candidate machinery lines and parts, rather than interchangeable codes for the same mill.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, the selected lines carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing measure, suspension or attached import control for these lines. Zero customs duty does not remove import VAT; see UK import duty and VAT.

Give your customs broker the mill's intended process, technical specification and details of separately shipped parts to confirm the commodity code. For other equipment within this heading, see plastic moulding machines.

Specify the rolls, compound and stopping system

State whether the mill will mix compound, warm prepared stock or cool discharged compound. Specify roll diameter and working length, roll material and finish, speed range and friction ratio, gap adjustment, batch capacity and temperature-control connections. Identify the rubber formulation and acceptance sample so the supplier demonstrates your process.

Agree the trip-bar layout, braking tests, roll separation arrangements and guarding of any stock blender with a machinery safety specialist. HSE guidance says each Lunn bar should have a positively operated switch at both ends. Government guidance requires machinery to be safe before placement on the Great Britain market or putting into service.

Request the declaration of conformity, conformity assessment details, English instructions, electrical diagrams and spare parts list before shipment. Include controller access, lubrication points, cooling-water requirements and the receiving site's electrical supply in the purchase specification.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Two rubber mixing mills, illustratively classified as mixers; values are illustrative under 8477 80 93 00, invoiced at £64,000 free on board, with £5,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £69,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £69,000, so it is £13,800. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Rolls: check surface condition, alignment, gap adjustment and repeatability against the agreed specification. Repeat the checks on arrival for corrosion or transport movement.

Process: witness a trial using representative compound and record mixing consistency, stock temperature, discharge condition, leakage and abnormal gearbox noise.

Safety: have a competent specialist check trip-bar switches, braking response, guards and restart behaviour against the agreed safety acceptance plan. Retain the test records.

Documents: match the nameplate and machine identity to the declaration, manual and diagrams. Check that supplied spares, cooling connections and controller access match the order.

What goes wrong

A mill can turn freely without processing your compound satisfactorily. Uneven gaps, unsuitable roll finish or insufficient temperature control can leave inconsistent stock. A no-load demonstration will not establish mixing performance. Agree a compound trial and measurable acceptance criteria before approving shipment.

Check for poorly positioned trip bars, ineffective braking, exposed stock-blender traps and missing maintenance information. Protect roll surfaces against corrosion and agree lifting and unloading arrangements. Use quality inspection to document both the factory findings and arrival damage.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For machinery and equipment, see machinery imports.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on rubber two-roll mills from China?

The selected heading 8477 machinery and parts lines carry 0% duty in the supplied tariff record. No anti-dumping or countervailing measure is listed for them. Confirm the mill's code by function.

Which commodity code covers a rubber mixing mill?

Check 8477 80 93 00 for mixers and kneaders first. Give your broker the process description and specification; a warming or cooling mill needs its function reviewed rather than automatically using the mixing-machine code.

What should I test before the mill ships?

Run representative compound, check gap repeatability and temperature control, and have a machinery safety specialist assess trip bars, braking, guarding and restart behaviour against the agreed acceptance plan.

Can I put an imported mill straight into use?

Machinery must be safe before it is put into service in Great Britain. Arrange safety acceptance and installation checks, and obtain the declaration, English instructions and maintenance diagrams before use.
