Sourcing rubber extrusion machines from China

Rubber extrusion machines and the selected associated machinery and parts from China carry 0% UK duty, with no trade remedies recorded. New machinery for Great Britain must be UKCA or CE marked, accompanied by a declaration of conformity and English instructions. Cambridge China Bridge sources rubber extrusion machines.

Rubber extruders and associated parts

Heading 8477 covers machinery for working rubber or plastics and its parts. Rubber extruders fall under 8477 20 00 00. The table also covers separately supplied rubber cutting machinery and machinery parts; it does not mean every item in an extrusion line shares the extruder code. See plastic extrusion lines for the wider heading.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, the selected lines carried 0% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measures, suspensions or attached import controls recorded. Elsewhere in the heading, foam-product machines have an entry restriction concerning ozone-depleting substances, and plastic-membrane machinery has a supplementary-unit measure. If either is included in a quotation, ask your customs broker to confirm the requirement.

Confirm the commodity code from the machine's function and the shipment breakdown. Separately shipped dies belong to heading 8480 rather than 8477. Keep the extruder, cutting equipment, dies and spare parts identifiable on the supplier's documents.

Specify the compound and extrusion process

State the rubber compound, feed form and intended profile, hose or cord. Agree hot-feed or cold-feed operation, screw diameter and geometry, barrel temperature control, cooling connections, die attachment and cleaning access. Define output and dimensional acceptance using your compound and intended die, rather than accepting a catalogue output figure.

Set the boundary of supply: extruder, feed equipment, die head, cooling, haul-off, cutter and any curing equipment. Agree how their controls work together. New machinery placed on the Great Britain market must have UKCA or CE marking, a declaration of conformity and English instructions. Ask for the conformity evidence for the supplied configuration and arrange testing and certification review.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: a rubber extrusion machine; values are illustrative, not a quotation under 8477 20 00 00, invoiced at £64,000 free on board, with £5,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £69,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £69,000, so it is £13,800. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Compound trial: run the agreed compound and die; record output, profile dimensions, surface finish and temperature stability. Check for scorching, surging and trapped air.

Safety: check feed-opening guards, exposed drives, hot surfaces, interlocks and emergency stops. Check how stopping the extruder affects the haul-off and cutter.

Controls and documents: match the machine identity to its declaration and manuals; check English instructions, controller access, wiring diagrams, cooling requirements and the agreed electrical supply.

Arrival: inspect screw and barrel protection, corrosion, loose connections and shipping damage. Recheck alignment and repeat the agreed compound trial after installation.

What goes wrong

A trial with an easier compound can hide poor feeding or inadequate temperature control. Excessive heat can scorch rubber in the barrel, while unstable feeding or mismatched haul-off speed can produce changing dimensions. Make acceptance depend on your material and product, with retained trial samples and recorded settings.

An incomplete supply boundary can leave the buyer without suitable cooling, die tooling or coordinated controls. Locked controller access and missing drawings also obstruct commissioning and repairs. Agree these deliverables before shipment, and use a quality inspection to check them against the order.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on rubber extrusion machines from China?

The supplied tariff record shows 0% duty for extruders under 8477 20 00 00, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure recorded.

Do rubber extruders need CE or UKCA marking?

New machinery placed on the Great Britain market must be UKCA or CE marked, supplied with a declaration of conformity and English instructions.

How do I check a rubber extruder's output?

Run your agreed compound through the intended die. Record output, dimensions, surface finish and temperature stability, and check for scorching and surging.

Are extrusion dies included in the machine's tariff code?

Separately shipped dies belong to heading 8480. Ask your customs broker to check the machine, dies, cutting equipment and parts against the shipment breakdown.
