Sourcing rubber sandblasting hoses from China

Rubber sandblasting hoses from China carry a flat 2% UK import duty across the relevant reinforced-hose lines, with or without fittings. Suppliers must supply safe work equipment. Specify the abrasive liner, pressure rating and coupling system before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources rubber sandblasting hoses.

UK duty and hose construction

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, the relevant rubber sandblasting-hose lines carried 2% duty on goods from China. Heading 4009 covers tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanised rubber other than hard rubber, with or without fittings. The supplied extract lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or attached import control for the lines shown here.

The extract includes a 0.00 % suspension for a specifically described automotive brake hose. That description does not cover ordinary sandblasting hose. Choose the sandblasting-hose line by its actual reinforcement materials and whether fittings are attached, rather than by the factory's product name.

Ask for a construction drawing and material breakdown, then confirm the commodity code. A hose reinforced only with textile differs from one combining textile and metal reinforcement. For the wider rubber-hose heading, see our rubber compressed-air hoses guide.

Specify the abrasive liner and coupling system

Describe the abrasive medium, dry or wet operation, bore, outside diameter, length, working pressure, temperature range and minimum bend radius. Specify the liner compound and thickness, reinforcement construction and cover resistance to handling damage. Ask for abrasion-test results that identify the method, test conditions and tested compound, so competing factory claims can be compared.

For fitted hose, agree the coupling model, hose dimensions accepted by that coupling, attachment method, retention test and replacement instructions. If electrical continuity is part of your specification, agree the test method and acceptance criterion for the complete assembly. Work-equipment suppliers must supply safe equipment. Pressure-system piping can include hoses, so ask a competent adviser to assess the pressure-equipment rules for your intended assembly.

UK REACH restrictions can limit, prohibit or impose conditions on substances in articles. Request material declarations for the liner and cover and agree any relevant chemical testing. Arrange testing and certification checks around the actual compound, construction and intended use.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 20 coils of textile-reinforced rubber sandblasting hose under 4009 31 00 90, invoiced at £5,000 free on board, with £2,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £7,000. Duty at 2% is £140. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £7,140, so it is £1,428. Import taxes total £1,568; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £140 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Construction: measure bore, outside diameter, length and liner thickness against the purchase specification; cut a sample to check reinforcement and look for liner voids or separation.

Performance: match abrasion and pressure-test reports to the supplied construction and batch; obtain agreed pressure and coupling-retention tests through a suitably equipped test facility.

Couplings and continuity: check coupling fit, fasteners, locking features and attachment against the approved assembly drawing; measure electrical continuity where specified.

Traceability and packing: check batch identification, pressure markings and supplied instructions; inspect for kinks, crushed coils, cover cracks and uncapped ends. Agree these checks in the inspection brief.

What goes wrong

An air-hose sample can conceal a liner unsuitable for abrasive flow. A thinner liner or changed compound can shorten wear life while the outside looks unchanged. Lock the approved cross-section and compound into the purchase specification, and compare production samples and abrasion reports with that approval.

Couplings can loosen when the hose outside diameter or attachment method changes. Electrical continuity can also fail across a replacement coupling despite a conductive-hose claim. Check the finished assembly, record the supplied components and inspect arrival damage before putting the hose into service.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on rubber sandblasting hoses from China?

The relevant reinforced rubber-hose lines carry 2% duty, with or without fittings. The supplied tariff extract lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty for these lines.

Which commodity code covers textile-reinforced sandblasting hose?

Hose reinforced only with textile normally falls under 4009 31 00 90 without fittings or 4009 32 00 90 with fittings. Confirm the actual construction before declaring it.

Can I use ordinary compressed-air hose for sandblasting?

Do not accept an air-pressure rating as evidence of abrasion resistance. Ask for a liner specified for your abrasive medium and supporting abrasion-test results.

How do I check an antistatic sandblasting hose?

Agree an electrical-continuity test and acceptance criterion before ordering. Test the finished hose assembly, including its couplings, rather than relying on the rubber compound description.
