Sourcing resin grinding segments from China

Resin-bonded grinding segments from China carry 0% UK duty across the relevant lines, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty listed. Match the abrasive, reinforcement and chuck fit to the machine, and check maximum operating speed and resin-bond expiry information. Cambridge China Bridge sources resin-bonded grinding segments.

Duty and classification of grinding segments

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, heading 6804 covers grinding tools without frameworks and their parts, including bonded abrasive segments. Non-reinforced resin-bonded artificial abrasives fall under 6804 22 12 00; reinforced versions fall under 6804 22 18 00. Other agglomerated diamond segments have a separate line. The ceramic or silicate line in the table is a comparison for buyers considering another bond.

The listed lines carry 0% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measures or suspensions recorded. The tariff attaches import and export waste controls. For waste imported into England under notification controls, the exporter must apply to the dispatch country's competent authority for consent. Ask your customs broker to confirm whether the shipment is waste and which controls apply.

Give your broker the abrasive composition, resin bond, reinforcement details, segment drawing and intended use to confirm the commodity code. For the wider heading, see grinding and cutting wheels. Import VAT is separate from duty; see UK import duty and VAT.

Specify the bond, abrasive and chuck fit

Specify the workpiece material, abrasive type, grit size, bond grade, reinforcement, segment profile and dimensional tolerances. Provide the machine and chuck drawings, clamping faces, intended operating speed and wet or dry grinding conditions. Agree how grinding performance will be compared with an approved sample, including stock removal, surface finish and segment wear.

HSE guidance describes segments held in special chucks that allow adjustment for wear. Check the proposed segment against the actual chuck before approving production. Request batch strength-test evidence, maximum operating speed, use restrictions and resin-bond expiry information. If the segments are intended for or likely to be used by consumers in Great Britain, the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 apply.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 150 non-reinforced resin-bonded grinding segments, illustrative only under 6804 22 12 00, invoiced at £2,500 free on board, with £150 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £2,650. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £2,650, so it is £530. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Fit: check profile, dimensions and clamping faces against the approved drawing and trial-fit samples in the intended chuck.

Condition: check for cracks, chipped edges, damaged mounting faces and inconsistent appearance before releasing the delivery.

Batch evidence: check abrasive and bond identification, reinforcement declaration, batch references, speed-test records and expiry information against the order.

Grinding trial: compare stock removal, surface finish and wear with the approved sample under agreed conditions. Use the quality inspection guide to brief the inspection.

What goes wrong

A segment can match the outline drawing but sit poorly in the chuck because its clamping faces or tolerances differ. Uneven segment heights can produce uneven contact. A bond that differs from the approved sample can change wear, loading and finish, so an appearance check alone does not establish grinding performance.

Cracks, damaged edges, weak bonds and missing batch evidence are reasons to hold a delivery for investigation. Keep suspect segments out of the production set. Agree replacement criteria using the approved drawing, sample and trial results, rather than accepting a general promise that the segments suit the machine.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on resin-bonded grinding segments from China?

The relevant heading 6804 lines carry 0% duty in the supplied tariff reading dated 1 October 2026. No anti-dumping or countervailing duty is listed. Import VAT is separate.

Which commodity code covers resin-bonded grinding segments?

For artificial abrasives, check 6804 22 12 00 for non-reinforced resin bonds and 6804 22 18 00 for reinforced types. Diamond segments have a separate line. Confirm composition and construction with your broker.

Can I order segments using only their dimensions?

Dimensions alone are insufficient. Specify abrasive, grit, bond, reinforcement, chuck fit, operating speed and wet or dry use, then approve a grinding trial against a reference sample.

What should I check when grinding segments arrive?

Check cracks, chipped edges, mounting faces, dimensions, batch identity, speed-test evidence and expiry information. Trial-fit samples in the intended chuck and compare grinding performance with the approved sample.
