Sourcing side-channel blowers from China
The selected heading 8414 lines carry a flat 2% UK duty for goods from China, with no listed anti-dumping duty. Confirm classification from the blower's operating principle and performance. Machinery supplied in Great Britain must be safe. Cambridge China Bridge sources regenerative side-channel blowers.

Duty and classification for side-channel blowers
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 29 September 2026, the selected lines under heading 8414 carry 2% duty for goods from China. This heading covers air and vacuum pumps, compressors and fans, among other equipment. The table shows classification candidates for checking, rather than interchangeable codes for every regenerative blower.
The selected lines have no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no attached import controls in the supplied tariff record. The suspension on 8414 80 80 90 is restricted to a specified membrane compressor used in motor vehicle seats; it does not cover regenerative side-channel blowers.
Ask your broker to confirm the commodity code using the operating principle, sectional drawing, pressure and vacuum curves, and intended function. Do not select a fan or compressor line solely from the supplier's product name. See industrial air blowers for the wider family.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Other centrifugal fans, subject to classification | 8414 59 35 90 | 2% | None |
| Other single-stage turbo-compressors, subject to classification | 8414 80 11 90 | 2% | None |
| Other multi-stage turbo-compressors, subject to classification | 8414 80 19 90 | 2% | None |
| Other air pumps and compressors, subject to classification | 8414 80 80 90 | 2% | None |
Specify the blower at its operating point
State whether the blower supplies pressure or vacuum, the required airflow at that operating point, and whether the gas is clean air. Request the complete performance curve, with the test conditions and supply frequency. Agree the permitted operating range, ambient conditions, continuous-duty suitability and inlet filtration.
Specify motor voltage, phase, frequency, winding material, bearing type, port threads, mounting orientation and terminal-box position. Agree silencers, filters, relief devices and replacement parts. Ask for current draw and temperature-rise results under the intended load, rather than accepting a free-flow headline figure.
For machinery supplied in Great Britain, safety is a legal requirement. As set out in our published machinery guidance, check the technical-file arrangements, declaration of conformity and UKCA or CE marking. Request the English manual for the exact model, including installation, operating limits and maintenance instructions.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: one regenerative side-channel blower package, assuming this classification is confirmed under 8414 80 80 90, invoiced at £6,000 free on board, with £900 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £6,900. Duty at 2% is £138. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £7,038, so it is £1,407.60. Import taxes total £1,545.60; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £138 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Performance: measure airflow and pressure or vacuum together at the agreed operating point, recording supply conditions and motor current. Follow the manufacturer's operating limits.
Mechanical condition: check impeller rubbing, bearing noise, vibration, casing damage, port threads and mounting feet. Repeat the checks after unpacking on arrival.
Motor and documents: match the nameplate, motor specification, terminal connections, declaration and manual to the ordered model.
Accessories and packing: check filter and silencer fit, relief-device identification, capped ports and restraint inside the crate. Use the inspection guide to plan shipment checks.

What goes wrong
A blower selected from maximum airflow alone can miss the required flow once pipework and filters add resistance. Pressure and vacuum performance also need separate checking. Reject comparisons that mix supply frequencies or omit the operating point.
Unapproved motor or bearing substitutions can change current, noise and running temperature. Poor restraint can damage mounting feet or let the impeller rub after transit. Record the approved components and acceptance checks in the purchase specification, then inspect the actual shipment.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on regenerative blowers from China?
The selected heading 8414 classification candidates carry 2% duty for goods from China, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Confirm the exact code before shipping.
Can I choose a blower from its maximum airflow?
Ask for airflow at your required pressure or vacuum. Compare curves at the intended supply frequency and include resistance from pipework, filters and silencers.
What conformity documents should I request?
For a complete blower supplied as machinery in Great Britain, check the declaration of conformity, UKCA or CE marking and technical-file arrangements. Request the exact model's English manual.
What should I check when the blower arrives?
Check the casing, feet, ports and terminal box for damage. Compare the nameplate with the order, then check noise, vibration, current and performance within the manufacturer's operating limits.
