Ranunculus duty and tariff suspensions
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 29 September 2026, heading 0601 covers dormant, growing or flowering bulbs, tubers and related planting material. For Ranunculus tubers, the relevant candidate lines are 0601 10 90 00 when dormant and 0601 20 90 00 in growth or flower. The table repeats these codes for different product forms.
The ordinary China rates are 4% and 6% respectively. Both lines list an autonomous tariff suspension at 0.00 %, excluding mixtures, preparations or products containing different components. No anti-dumping or countervailing duty is recorded. Organic import controls apply to both lines; the dormant line also carries CITES import and export flags, while the growing line carries a CITES export flag.
Confirm the shipment's condition and suspension eligibility with your broker using our commodity code guide. For the wider heading, see Dahlia tubers. The tariff's organic control needs a shipment-specific check with your broker and organic control body. Check the species against CITES listings: listed species require the relevant permit; the tariff flag alone does not establish that your Ranunculus shipment needs one.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dormant Ranunculus tubers, named cultivar | 0601 10 90 00 | 4% | None |
| Ranunculus tubers in growth | 0601 20 90 00 | 6% | None |
Specify the Ranunculus cultivar and claw condition
Specify the botanical identity, named cultivar or agreed colour mixture, size grade and how it is measured, dormant or sprouted condition, intact crown and attached claw-shaped roots. Agree packing that limits crushing and condensation, batch identification, and a sample growing trial to assess emergence and flower identity.
Before ordering for Great Britain, confirm the plant health risk category with the plant health authority. High risk, medium risk A and medium risk B imports move under plant health controls; ask the authority to confirm the applicable registration, phytosanitary certificate, pre-notification, checks and fees. Plan any confirmed requirements alongside the supplier's packing and dispatch arrangements.
For online sales directly to customers buying for personal use, a UK plant passport is needed. Plan this before preparing retail packs.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 2,000 dormant Ranunculus tubers; illustrative FOB and freight values under 0601 10 90 00, invoiced at £6,000 free on board, with £900 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £6,900. Duty at 4% is £276. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £7,176, so it is £1,435.20. Import taxes total £1,711.20; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £276 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Identity: check cultivar labels, colour-mixture instructions and batch references against the order.
Claws and crowns: check for broken crowns, detached roots, soft tissue and excessive shrivelling.
Packing: check for damp cartons, condensation, mould, insects and attached soil.
Performance: grow samples from each batch and compare emergence and flowers with the agreed specification. Use our inspection guide.

What goes wrong
Watch for brittle claws damaged during handling, crowns that soften in damp packing, and stock that arrives sprouted despite being ordered dormant. Keep affected batches separate and photograph the condition before repacking. A dry-looking tuber does not by itself demonstrate growing performance.
Cultivar substitutions and mixed batch labels may only become apparent at flowering. Agree how growing-trial results and disputed batches will be handled before ordering. Check the grower and packing operation through supplier verification.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
